What do they mean by not enough copper? CSA smaller than stated to reduce the manufacturer cost maybe?

exactly robbie, there was a program on bbc last week which had a feature on the amount of counterfiet cable in the uk which was way under it's alleged current carrying capacity.
a frightening amount of the stuff out there!

copper is getting so expensive now that there is obviously a huge market for this cheap and dangerous crap.

    fake britain it was!

i am guessing this stuff is very much black market supply rather than dodgy wholesalers?

Everyone in the business has long had their suspicions about these cheap cables. Great to see finally something being done about it, but how many apartment blocks in Ireland are already wired in the stuff?
There are two basic ingredients in the manufacture of cables labour & copper , and copper costs are based on the LME common to all manufacturers.
As a supplier you can try make savings on one but never both.
