That's the standing charge. You can get you gas switched off but it will cost you and cost you again to get it switched back on by a RECI engineer.

Depending on the system there may alo be a pilot light going all the time which will use a tiny bit of gas per month as well as the daily standing charge.

If you're connected, then they will charge you a standing amount every billing period. The only thing to do is to get the gas turned off fully, but be aware that there will be a reconnection charge should you ever wish to use it again.

    Your bill is estimated,

    Submit a meter reading.

We only use gas for the heating, which is turned off from April to November (approx), but we still get bills during the spring / summer months, worth about 14 euros for service charge + VAT. It's like anything, if you have a connection, you get a standing charge even when you don't use it (phone, electricity, etc....)
