Pictures are a little s**t though.

So, what do you think ? Be honest...

Wow! Savage looking motor! Whats the mileage on her? I would say by looking at the second photo the front tyres look a little worn, but all in all lovely looking motor.

    Well Done!

Very clean, me likey, but how long have you been driving it around to have been stopped three times? I regularly go days and days without seeing any Guards at all.

119K on the clock, nothing for something like this...Yeah needs 2 new tires too. Have to price those tomorrow. Its also surprisingly good on diesel. I drove over from the UK.....only stopped for fuel about 4 times :)

Very nice car. How much if you don't mind me asking.

Any idea what sort of MPG you'll get out of that 4L engine ? Plenty of power I'd suspect anyways.

IIRC, is this the engine which Clarkson drove from London to Edinburgh and back on a single tank ?

Well, the day I got it to Ireland I was stopped over at Clarehall...brought it to Longford and was stopped on my way down and I was stopped today, near where I was stopped the 1st time..I asked the guard why I was being stopped so many times and he said it just looks like one of those cars he'd stop...I actually got quite annoyed at that ...I'm driving it 2 days now BTW

Paid €9K for it, excluding VRT is another €3555.

On motorways its good on diesel, driving it around Dublin is rubbish, but diesel is only 1.34 a litre over in Imports direct in Clarehall. Didn't really think about MPG, I'll have a look over the next few days and let you know though. And yes.....more than enough power.

That's ridiculous, I know they have to clamp down on people trying to evade tax and all that but someone who's worked hard for a decent car should be allowed to enjoy it without being harassed. Maybe if they'd seen the car a few times and were checking that it was legit but that's clearly not the case here.

According to Parkers, you should be seeing about 28 MPG, so realistically, it's probably slightly lower, although it depends on the type of driving.

Thanks mate, it really is ridiculous. And when he said to me this was the type of car he would usually stop I was really annoyed. Just can't wait to get this bloody VRT sorted.

Would 28MPG be on a motorway or city ?? Doubt it would be city though. Went for the diesel for better MPG, but don't think it would have made a big difference now.. Ah well !

I'm really trying to drive as sensible as possible, don't think I'd be able to afford to speed in about a week after putting petrol into this, even though I'm paying 1.34 per litre. I'd love to fill the tank with diesel and see how much it'd cost.
Most I put into it was €75.

The same website says my 1.8L petrol does 36 MPG. Most of my driving is around Dublin (Swords to Donnybrook which includes a stretch of motorway), but I go to great lengths to avoid any serious traffic and I get 33 MPG according to the on board computer and I have done calculations which confirm this.

Ah, I'm gonna find out myself and see what I get. Doubt It'd be much over 28 though. Just out of curiosity, what do you drive ?

I can't knock it, I've two friends and my mother offering to buy it off me despite it not being for sale. Thought about giving in and upgrading to the MPS but just can't bare to part with a car that's been nothing but a joy to own.

I can remember watching that episode, just not sure what A8 it was though.....If it was the same as my one there must be a problem with mine...

Never drove the MPS, so not sure what its like. If I was you I'd keep your current car though, they're really great cars.

in Ireland its illegal to drive a car like this!

    cops think along the lines..

"wtf, why are you not driving a 1.6 primera.. huh...who lets you drive this??!!"

Hahhah, if I get stopped again I'm gonna ask the Guard if its illegal to drive something like this..!! I can see wheres he's coming from abit though...I come in and out of Darndale abit as my parents live there and Darndale is notorious for drug dealing etc. But still 3 tomes and its only in Ireland 2 days.

But surely there's a grace period. And what about tourists who bring their own cars. I know the OP is resident in Ireland but the Guards shouldn't stop every foreign car to check where the driver lives. If they've seen it a couple of times, then by all means investigate, but it appears you've got the Guards attitude spot on.

I think hes doing this because he can, the 2 guards that stopped me in Clarehall were from the same station, sure we knew I was already stopped ? If not fair enough, but its just what I think.

When Clarkson drove to Edinburgh, He Drove ridiculously economical, Not going over 2000 rpm or so, No radio, heater, Any auxiliary electronics. And IIRC he had the twin turbo which was a 4.2l v8?

    I think your right.

All the same, it's very impressive mileage considering how heavy the car is and the size of the engine.
