Serious question about sex scenes in films

Right a serious question... When an actor and actress are having a steamy love scene, what happens when the guy gets a boner? I mean in some films they seem to be going at it quite hard (excuse the pun) and there doesnt seem to be the opportunity to stick a pillow or what not between them.

I think that they wear flesh coloured g strings (both the men and the women) with padding in the groin areas (which you don't tend to see). "Excitement" can't therefore be felt.

i imagine the opposite is commoner; sets are not enclosed environments; with a director and 30+ people staring at you while you're in 2/3 of a room in the nip!

They might look hot and steamy on screen, but in reality the shooting of sex scenes in films are fairly technical affairs so there isn't much risk of arousal.

Yup, I've done a shoot in bed and while it wasnt a sex scene.... there is no waaaay anyone is getting horny haha.

You have to remember there will be at LEAST 2 cameras with probably a crane camera on bigger shoots. Then you have the sound guys who basically spend all their time trying to get as close to you as the camera men will allow them. Lights scorching the arse off you, with lighting people hovering around them. To all of that you can add the director, the continuity person, the first and second directors, runners, co-actors etc etc etc. You'll do the same scene, word for word, action for action exactly the same at least 4 times, probably more like 12 once you've got all the fluffs and technical goofs over with.

Ok, on a steamy scene the director might clear it to only necessary people on set, so thats about 8-12 thats for your privacy more than anything!

I have heard rumours of leading men... um, pleasuring themselves in the morning to be sure they wouldnt embarrass anyone but really, its about the least sexy environment you can imagine as the crew will typically pull the unmerciful, if sets I've been on are anything typical haha...
