Focus E-Management light after service...

    Hi lads,

Myself, and a friend of mine just did a simple service on his 04 Ford Focus. This consisted of, an oil and filter change, air filter change, and spark plugs.

The car hasn't been serviced for the previous 15k miles prior to this, and everything was done perfectly. Today he rang, totally freaked out because his engine management light came on!!:eek:

Any ideas why this may have happened? I noticed last night that his coolant was very low, and suggested just now that he top it and disconnect the battery for a while, hoping it will reset the light.

Do fords have some sort of service light?!

I'd look at the spark plugs and make sure all are connected properly, most likely what is giving the warning message.

Funnily enough it was these that gave us the most trouble to change, it's like the Incredible Hulk must have tightened them the first time! I'll have another look at them, and get a feeler guage to the new plugs.

Also just found out that timing belt hasn't been changed in 70,000 miles.. so I wonder if this could be the root?

I'd be more inclined to think with the plugs that it's the connection to the ignition coil where the problem is rather than where it's screwed in unless one was cross threaded and is not sitting correctly.

The timing belt is unlikely to give any indication of failure, doubt this is the cause.

Mechanic hear just serviced a focus myself no the timing belt won't bring that on and the problem will be inside the plug leads there crap and anew set is 25 euro but if u don't want to spend just spray the inside of the leads with wd40

Some times the coil corrodes. Take off the HT leads and have a look a it. It can be like blue looking stuff. Also check the leads themselves.

Check also what type pf plugs were fitted, champion plugs cause problems in the fords.

Its also essential that the plugs are correctly gapped on those engines.
