My insurance is out on Monday so I went online to renew today to see that I already have a policy in place for August 2011 - 2012.

I paid by credit card last year but am not aware of any auto renew feature.

Their helpline is closed so don't know what's going on.

Cant imagine that there would be such a thing as "auto renewal" since its up to you to decide if you want to renew or not. My policy is out tomorrow and they sent me out a letter about 2 weeks ago with the renewal details on it.

Did you get a letter in the post with your renewal quote?

I did recently and when i went online i seen the same as yourself, but you will still need to ring them and pay the renewal, you may be able to do it online also. But you have to initiate it.

They dont auto take the renewal from your card.

My wife's policy renewal was in January while we were on holidays.
When we came back, we found a letter send 30 days before renewal date, stating that if she doesn't wish to renew she has to contact them no later than 7 days before renewal date
Obviously she didn't contact them as she was not aware of receiving this letter.
Then few days before renewal date she was send a letter with new disc and certificate, and statement that her direct debit will be used for renewed policy.

For me it's a joke. At first I wanted to cancel that policy straight away, but then after doing some research I found out that it was the cheapes offer she got anyway, so we kept it.

    It was with Aviva.

My renewal was up recently, if i wanted to continue with them for the year i wouldn't have to do anything and they would just take the money from my bank account as normal but as i was changing company i had to ring up to cancel my contract a few days before renewal date.

First of all excellent username. Love that band.

I'm with Quinn and its the same procedure with them. Call them, say your not happy and you'll get a few hundred off the quote.

Ha exact same thing happened me, fook them and their auto re-newal I'm off.
Then they were the cheapest plus their temp transfer service is savage!

This seems to be a racket with insurance companies, leave quote as late as possible and then renew automaticaly, hoping people are too lazy or don't want hassle of changing company.
I have discovered in the past that even though they renew your policy and send out new documents the policy is not valid until you pay them (small print).
Have same issue with Quinn at the moment, quoted 3 times price of last year (2636) got insurance with another co. for 404.00, and have no intention of wasting time and money phoning Quinn to cancel renewal.
When I signed and returned renewal forms last year we entered into a 1 year contract, they cannot renew this contract for another year without my agreement, if they do and send out disc and cert then that's their problem, disc will look good on kids pedal car!
