    Hi

Im awaiting results of my repeat LC, and hoping for an offer to study medicine.

Was previously in college for 3 years but didnt complete my degree.

My question is will i be entitled to a loan to cover my tuition and living expenses.

Students entering Graduate Entry Medicine seem to have a few options available to them but im not sure what options there aqre for someone in my position.

Has anyone ever heard of a bank giving a loan to an undergrad to cover tuition and living?

In a similar position here. I completed first year of a course and will now be starting medicine which means tuition fees of 10,700 (RCSI) for 1st year. Having contacted the college, they advised me to seek a loan from AIB. I went to my local branch and they were very helpful, providing the loan and allowing me to defer re-payments until after I qualify (at a large interest rate, unfortunately). They also offered me the option of re-paying the interest over the next 5 years and then paying only the original lump sum off in 5 year's time. As far as I know, loan applications like this are decided at local level so this may not be the "standard procedure" throughout the country. Best of luck.

    Hi Laika

    Thanks for the reply.

I will have to pay 4 years of my 5 year course as i was in college for 4 years previously.

Fingers crossed i can find an accommodating bank!

Will your bank top up your loan in the future for living expenses etc?

In UCD if you have completed one year of a science related degree and satisfy the requirements you are entitled to skip premed and enter first year therefore avoiding the fees as you are technically going into 2nd year, would it not be a similar case in RCSI?

I thought the same as I am skipping pre-med so emailed the college but they do not allow this as a reason to waive the fees. :(

Also, the bank were willing to give more money for living expenses etc, they were very accommodating!

The banks are great with med students and when you qualify you have pretty much pre approval for a mortgage.
