Watching Sky news discussing the riots in England they mentioned that a French newspaper editorial called the mob " Riotshoppers". Do you think it's an adequate name or should it be deprived, disillusioned inner city youth ?

Opportunistic is the word I'd use

The English language has become bastardised by the media and internet (suppose mobile phones too!) over the last few years (ok I'll admit even before the internet). We're utilizing a minute percentage of the language already, no point adding more bullsh!t terms.

Why is there a new word? Does "scumbags" not cover it?

    Riotshoppers.

As in stealing stuff from shops while rioting.

    Looting stuff from shops.

    Looters.

Why invent new ridiculous sounding words when there are already perfectly suited words that have been in use for centuries?

Since "shoppers" are people who buy stuff, the made-up "word" is bull****.

The word is looters or robbers.

I think it's an adequate word to be honest. It's sickening the ' community leaders ', sociologists, Marxists etc trying to portray the riots as some sort of legit public anger.

Yes but that's their idea of the word, it's showing the hypocisy and mentallity of those invovled and those who make excuses for them.

'Riot shoppers' are regular shoppers who can identify the rioters while shopping, done by putting big posters with the rioters faces uncovered.

    OP has misunderstood the term

Why mess with the classics? They're Looters and that's what they should be called.

"recreational rioting" was the new term I learned from all this

    The media loved using it
