Played one of the opens earlier this year it was a very windy day and was round in 4hrs 20 minutes starting at 2,30pm so I was not that upset and we did look for a lot of golf balls due to our bad play

What's the course like? Is this the one that's twinned with Elm Green. I've played Elm Green a few times and it's a terrible course really - it probably damages your putting the greens are so bad to putt on.

Its up in Donabate beside the Island. Not sure if its twinned with Elm Green tbh. I really, really like the place. The first 13/14 holes are good but then you enter a field where you hit the ball back and down for two holes, followed by a short par 3 and a weak finishing hole which lets it down. Enjoyable would be the best description and it will help your iron play as not too many holes require a wood of the tee, perhaps 2/3 at most if my memory is spot.

gotta agree with elm green, played it on sunday, and i was pretty upset to see about 20 pitch marks per green. Loved the practice putting greens tho pitty its not like that the whole course

It's a fair distance from The Island. It's across the road from Balcarrick GC.

The field is gone a while now. I haven't played it since they did away with those three holes so I don't know what they did to replace them - but yes they were crap holes.

It's a true Links test. Bernhard Langer used to practice on it before the British Open.

For the OP - why not go out and play on a comp day? It's a public course so there's nothing to stop you booking a slot.

Pretty sure its next door to the Island no? Have played both, granted we entered in to the Island down some back road, but I could have sworn I was in the same area.
And they must have replaced it with a field, because 15 and 16 are still just up and down a big field.
But like I said, its enjoyable.

Backs on to the Island alright and to be fair generally has far better greens.

Yeah - it's the entrances that are a good bit apart but they do get fairly close alright.

They must have. The field used to be 13,14,15. Short par 4 and then two easy par 3s.

15 and 16 are still up and down a big stretch that could be described as field :) I think both those holes still have a links feel to them and 16 is a good hole imo. They wouldn't be the safest 2 holes to play though.

There used to be 3 holes(all par 3s I think) after what is now 15 and they were not very nice and definitely in what could only be described as a field(next to the car park of the Dunes hotel.)

Little story about corballis, I was out with one of my mates a while ago and he topped his ball off the tee box on the high level par 3 (gone into the high dune grass we thought) he played a second and we started to walk down towards the hole and a whole 5 min later :D out trickled his first ball .. it was great.. must have went down a rabbit hole and back out another, round the back of the carpark, back out to the green etc... and he tapped it in for a birdie (we were just messing about)

Anyway theres a very nice selection of holes on Corballis, nice few dog legs and par 5's its a hard course when raining and windy but its a very nice links..

I've walked or played most great links in Ireland and the first seven holes are up there with any, there is a bit of snobery about it (as public) and every hacker and Taxi driver plays it, so can be slow and divotfull.

Corballis would not be a difficult course , but you need the wisdom of age (i lack with age) to hit an eight iron off a tee. It totally goes against the grain , but the 2nd is two 9 irons.

At the eight it is is very tempting to jump the fence and finish in The Island (11 and 12 only other good holes) , the kids rob your ball at the ninth. (lol) The joys of North County Dublin. (being a snob now).

It has been the home of the homeless golfer for many a year and it is Augusta compared to Deer Park.

    The views are spectacular too.

Anyway , who the hell is going to pay for the Island , Portmarnock, or Royal Dublin, St annes yes.

Played St. Annes with two yanks yesterday, they drove around North Dublin looking for a links, were kind of laughed out of Portmarock , they would not pay the deal price of 130 euro-- Ireland is a strange country.

Never trust a review with an emotional attachment. Just hit that improbable 9 iron.

Could not remember if [it was a par 4, fair play. was reachable, but a silly road in front of green, that was a funny place them 3 holes, in NAMA now (Joke).

The Dunes , me da would have a pint there, I'd play Pool, is it still on the go ?

This is spot on. For a "public" course the greens would put most "members" courses to shame.

Has some of the best par-3s anywhere. The 4th and 6th are little gems. Views from both teeboxes are worth the price of admission alone.

Are competitions in public courses open to non-members?

Unless they are an open competition, no.

Great little course, quite a challenging spot.

As previously stated by others, holes 1 - 13 are all very good, with 3, 4, 6 and 11 the stand-outs IMO. The view from the 12th tee is exceptional as well.
14th is a bit strange, not a fan of the blind shot into the green at all. First time I played there I didn't have a clue where I was supposed to be going.
15 & 16 let it down a bit, two very plain holes. You could hook or slice the ball 40-50 yards off centre and still be on the fairway.
I know a few people have given out about 17th, but I quite like it. Yes it's short, but it's a pretty tricky green and it more than makes up for the shortness.
18th is plain enough as well.

The course is open to non members as a public course. So you can play but not be in the comp. You may need to book a bit in advance though.

Lads i love the way a lot of you keep saying corballis is easy and not a difficult course!!

It is actually one of the most difficult courses in the north county.

The emerald pro tour played it couple of years ago and a lot of top irish pros played, best score was 70. ( 4over on a nice calm day )

Irish Junior Cup Metropolitan section played there in May 2011 ( handicaps 3-7 ) average score ona breezy day 16over gross

Course record is level par 66.

When someone breaks that let me know!!

Sorry if this sounds like im moaning but i just cant stand people lying about there playing ability. If we were all that good wed be on the pro circuit.

    Wow,

Hard to believe it is only 66.

Makes me feel good about +7 after 13 today. With a quad on 5. Against face of front bunker.

I'll be honest , I'd say 66 has been broken.

Thats just like me saying i beat beverstown course record but i was off society tees when i did it.

66 has never been broken from the official measured golf course and fair play to the person who does

    Great from backs.

Could see how 3 should be par 5. But with a good one have gone driver 6 iron. So a great long par 4.

7 from back , what a hole. First time there today. 5 Iron and PW worked out.

Pity there is no land , just lacks that extra par 5 and may 4 extra par 4s. But look , perhaps it would not be the place it is if it was changed.

Sorry , I go on about Corballis a bit here. don't let the secret out about the place.

BTW, they could do with more divot bags and a bit of education to users.

Have to say great 3 of us joined so tend to play together, the members we have met are very friendly and the pace of play is good. The course is always in good condition, a lot of the divots come the tight landing areas but the green keepers seem to fill them in every week.
