Social Welfare Dilemma

    Hi all,

My girlfriend is in a bit of a dilemma....

She has been on the dole for a few months. She has secured a job but it's only 16 hours a week, over the course of 5 days.

She's planning on taking the job as she is very eager to work. As it's only 16 hours she'll end up less off than staying on the dole.

Is there any way of getting 'partial' dole as she's only working 16 hours a week?

    Thanks!

well as she will be working 5 days per week she won't be entitled to dole but if she could get to do the 16 hours within 3 days she would be able to claim for the other 3 days,

it a balls but that's how the system works.

I think this situation has to looked at by SW as you could have someone working 3 days a week on JSB receiving lets say €189 minimum from employment and receiving €93 approx on JSB totaling €282 and then you have this girl working 5 days and receiving €145 a week and no benefit. *I am basing the wages on €9 per hour.

Yeah and when you're interviewing, the first thing people say when they sit down is 'I'm only interested in 3 days work'.

It's not their fault, its the way the system works, but shifts in retail and catering are usually 4 hrs per day.

Hence this situation has to be addressed. Small businesses should contact the Minister. People working within SW could suggest this but it needs more weight behind it e.g. business people.
