    Hi all

Was thinking of doing the CAP 2 exams externally for the year and get a training contract in September. Now however I'm considering doing the elevation programme with an accountancy firm. What is the difference and which is the best?

I think the main difference is that with a training contract you are locked in to it, but as an Elevation student you are free to change jobs. As an Elevation student I feel that the course caters more for the training contract students. Many elevation students don't get the same study leave as contract students, and many are the only people in their firm doing the course. Personally I have to use annual leave as the firms I've worked with are under no obligation to give time off for the block release and study leave.
The course content is the same for both types of student, although they encourage working together on assignments and on preparation for the assessments/final exams. This is where I felt disadvantaged, being the only person in my firm doing the course, but thankfully many people here were able to help out.
Also Elevation students are expected to gain more work experience, I think 4 years, before they can be accepted as full members. You can get more info here

    Good luck!
