Where have all the triathletes gone?

Doing tri's about 4 years now and one thing i have noticed is a number of top triathlets seem to disappear after a yr or two at the top.

Are they still involved in the sport or do they just retire as life gets in the way of the training? Or are they injured? Or have they emigrated?

    Examples

    Liam Dunne
    Art McManusa
    Barbara O hanrahan
    Kierva Eva Mooney
    Brian Jenkins
    John caffrey

    Can you name any others?

    All Belpark bar Jenkins.

Met Jenkins in Frankfurt, he finished a bit ahead of me.

Dunne smashed his ankle surfing a few years back. AFAIK Art is cycling only now.

Is there ever going to be a book about the goings on in Belpark? Id pay to read it.

My first duathlon at the end of 07 i witnessed the race director who was also racing verbally abuse one of your iron buddies. I thought to myself what a dic* . I still maintain that opinion about that same guy today.

    Am eagerly awaiting the book

The life span of most triathletes I think is very short - 4-5 years for a lot of people.

For most people it can take up a huge amount of time - both training/racing/weekends away...

I did my first race in 2006 and havn't done a race this year. Been thinking about hanging up my boots to presue other things I want to achieve.
    Triathlon isn't the only thing!
I guess similar applies to most others.

Even I don't know (or care) what happened with Belpark. **** happens.

I'd imagine alot of people 'burn out' after a couple of years alright... seems pretty common in tri.

Brian Jenkins is UK based now AFAIK, and is coaching. Won the open race at the Euro Duathlon champs in Limerick this year, crushing the dreams of newbies from far and wide.

See www.gotri.ie, he has a link there.

Eanna works in base2race now. He is happy out and never intends to race again and doesn't miss it one bit. When racing with a French team he had bad knee problems-they never bothered trying to get to the root of it, just kept injecting a pain killing/numbing solution into it to mask the problem.

The Bolgers-racing in the UK this year I think.

John is concentrating on his cycling this year. I go for a spin with him most weekends, the little guy is forever trying to hang on to my wheel ;)

Mark Dowling doing very well cycling now.I think injury plays a large part in the sport due to the high volume.
