Looking for some hints and tips on how to set up a good mailing list service for our customers. Id want to send an email maybe once a month, just of interesting stuff ive seen around the net and also to promote ourselves a bit.

Whats the best programme to use? Does it cost a fortune? Any freeware that is usefull? Id like it to have a feature were people can recommend the mailing list to others, or post certiain posts on facebook even.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Have a look at Mailchimp its pretty good. Just be aware though those customers have to first sign up to receive the newsletter using an opt in method. You cant just go spam people with a newsletter, they also have to have the option to equally opt out of receiving it but you can do all that through mailchimp.

Cool. Just had a look at mailchimp there, and it has a pretty good free version. We have a list of people who want to be added already, but was hoping to have an option to subscribe on our website too. Is that possible with mailchimp free version?

You can integrate a subscription form on your website that will feed in the details of people that sign up and add them to your mailing list in mailchimp.
