I have an engraving which appears to be the interior of a pub. It looks like a traditional Dublin pub. Would anybody know which one it is?

    It is signed "farrell"

I can't seem to flip it in the browser.

Looks like one of the older victorian style pubs, Ryans on Parkgate street, or Neary's on Chatham street maybe?

Looks like the partitions in Kehoes at the bar. Could be mistaken though.

    That's fine – I didn't see that forum.

Looking at the partition and the very distinctive window shape are the clues.

Doesn't seem to match The Stags Head, Ryans of Parkgate St and Queen St, Neary's, The Palace, Kehoes, The Long Hall....

    The Palace, Temple Bar?

The mirrors in many of these places are somewhat similar – but they do have individual features. The oval motif on the mirror to the left of the image might identify it.

I have been wondering about the date for clothes – thirties or forties perhaps!

seconded.......pretty sure it is, as the wood around the picture looks like a perfect fit for the diggers.

    I've emailed them to ask.

    It's a picture, not a photo.

Chances are it's a fictional setting from the artists mind.

Awwwwhh did I spoil your little game of make believe?

    Shucks.

    Some serious research needed.

Forget the emailing op. You need to get out and visit all pubs listed so far and have copious pints in each.

Best of luck my friend. If you need some assistance on this worthwhile task I am prepared to help you. Civic duty and all that.

Just give me the nod and I am there.

Is there a chance it could be an example of work by the engravers/stonemasons called Farrell who mostly do headstones? That would fit in with Kavanagh's.

Now that's interesting! I've emailed Kavanagh's – no reply so far! I''ll look up Farrell's Stonemasons.

Looks like the Long Hall to me.

Long Hall or Palace, I would say. There's a wee stout chap depicted, who to me looks like R.M. Smyllie, former editor of the Irish Times... if this is right I plump for the Palace then.

It looks a bit too "plush" to be Kavanaghs (Gravediggers) to me...

The Guy in the back looks like Flann O'Brien too... He was well known to be in the Palace regularly
