If it fits in your one carry on bag and is under the restricted weight you should be fine.

Remember too that you can only carry one bag on board, that includes laptop bags and handbags!

Also, Ryanair crew sometimes have to shift bags after you've placed them in the overhead bins so if it's not securely packed it could get jostled about a bit.

Also bear in mind that if your bag is deemed to be too big (as opposed to be too heavy) Ryanair will insits that you put it in the cargo hold (and charge about €40 to do so).

Not trying to scare you, just things to bear in mind.

They have these stupid metal box things that they get you to stick your bag in and they barely give you a chance to ease it in before they have you paying for it.
My mam's bag fit in the box thing, but cos it took her longer than 3 seconds to get the bag into it, they were already writing the €40 bill. I had murder with the crew involved, trying to get her to give me 5 seconds to actually FIT the bag in. The wheels made it a bit awkward. Apparently they work on commission

Also, at the gate before you board the plane they sometimes have weighing scales and corrugated cardboard boxes that they slide down over your case. If it's overweight or doesn't fit then you also get charged and the bag put under.

This stops people from buying Duty Free, stuffing their cases full of it and then getting on the plane.

im wondering is it ok to bring on a backpack as hand luggage on the ryanair flight, compliant with dimensions they specify ?

Of course it is OK to bring a backpack. I always travel with a backpack as my carry-on, Ryanair or otherwise.

Thanks undo, just when they are so picky about luggage, just wanted to check.

I have actually seen people with ridiculously oversized backpacks on Ryanair flights so many times. I have no idea why Ryanair are less strict about checking these... but fact is, they are.

When I saw this thread I thought the question was from a safety point of view. I can't bring a razor on a flight but someone can bring on a china plate that can be broken into sharp shards???

You can bring a razor on a flight, where did you get that from?

Probably not a very good source I admit!

You can bring a razor, but not razor blades (the sharp dangerous ones - the safety ones are fine)

Just wondering if I'm bringing a small suitcase (55 x 40 x 20) as cabin baggage, will I be allowed to bring a handbag as well?

No. Everything must fit into your one item of hand luggage.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. Thank you!

no I'm afraid everything has to fit into the one bag!.

You might be lucky and get away with it , I saw them stopping people but you can just put in the bag when asked.

How about fountain pens, would they be okay in carry on?

I didn't want to start a new thread needlessly so hopefully you won't mind me hi-jacking this one.

Does anyone know of a carry on luggage back that get's every available MM out of the Ryanair allowance and is a hard case as well so I know that if I can close it (and it's within weight) that it will fit in those little cages?

This bag meets the size requirement (as far as I can see) but is nylon so I'd be afraid it might bulge or something. Also there are questions over it's sturdiness (but they may not be fair complaints).

Anyway, does anyone know if my dream bag exists?
    Thanks!

Ask an Michael shall provide. When I saw these previously they were soft case but now that their hard case I'm afraid I'm going to bow down and accept my fate. I'm gonna be doing more travel with work shortly and it's just not worth the hassle trying to fight with them.

Before you go shelling out over the odds for a seriously basic samsonite, take a look at this. It's available in a couple of colours, it's lighter and at least has some compartments, best of all, €22 cheaper!
