This thread is all things fashion :
as people we often come under scrutiny for what we wear .Ok maybe not half as much as celebs but we aren't invisible either

So what do you like to wear? Do you go for comfort or chic?

Are there certain types of clothing that put you off someone
or can make someone more appealing to you?

Would you believe I have spent the last half hour trying to find affordable high quality womens socks???
I want dark ones for wearing with dark shoes and jeans.
    I want padded heals.
I want extra strapping round the midfoot.
I want something like 1000mile socks or Lorpen socks.
I DO NOT want to pay over €10 a pair.
I want 5pairs (because the washing machine eats them for a snack when it cant have my sexy bras!)

Well anyone who knows my posts on here will know I have a bee in my bonnet about style and clothes. I like looking my best, for me, although I suppose the fact my GF likes the style of clothes I wear makes it easier! (I'm not saying I think I look awesome, far from it, but I like reflecting on how the clothes I wear make other people assume certain things about me... it's pretty interesting.)

As for what I like on other people... so long as people are neat and tidy and have some confidence in what they're wearing, it doesn't impact on whether I find them attractive or not. of course, playing to your strengths is important, so I woman my size (I'm not small FYI) wearing skinny jeans cut off at the ankle and a tight top... well, that's just not pleasant. I tend to prefer someone who's looking chic rather than casual, but that's just because I like the neat and tidy, and clothes that fit right above anything else.

I get more uptight when I see men dressed badly than women, which is weird. I get really annoyed when I see guys wearing suits that are too big or brown shoes with a tux, for example.:mad::mad:

I tend to go for comfort over chic - can't be arsed keeping up with the latest fashions. Was wearing a shirt, River Island boyfit jeans and Converse in work today (stereotype...) and that's fairly normal for me. I actually have a preference for butch dressing, but don't have the figure for it at all (serious hourglass, so I look good in really girly clothes). The other reason for being pretty meh about fashion is that I tend to spend far too much money on running (and soon, cycling) stuff. :pac:

i like it when its a nice combo of comfortably stylish. ive never been a fashion slave. i wouldnt wear most of the things i see in magazines. but i like to look good. and my taste tends towards the girlier stuff. my shape also suits dresses more as well. i wont wear something thats really cool looking if it cuts off my circulation or makes breathing harder. my mother is often saying 'oh, thats very Now!' <- like i stand in front of the wardobe thinking 'oh maxi's are so now, id better wear one) - i appreciate shes just trying to say its nice. its a nice change to 'ah that would look way better with a belt' or 'the one time we go out shopping together and you wear THAT?! its looks like my mams nightie'

for the record the mam-esque nightie is a shift dress with a slightly floral pattern.

i treat my body like an artist canvas - fling things on it. unless im being casual, then we're in dodgier territory! <- my casual is just 'something i threw on' not in a 'oh t his old thing?...' sexy way

I have the same problem as Kirby .
I have this insanely femme figure so now matter how butch i'd chose to dress I just can't quite pull it off with my figure so I guess when I dress casually I get odd looks thrown at me

However I would not date someone who had a bra phobia with an obsession with tank tops, seeing someone's nipple should turn me on but I ge extremely sick for some reason when I see it:mad:

If someone's got big enough boobs and is wearing a tank top with no bra, I just cringe, it looks so uncomfortable...

and a bit too much info - a nicely supported bust is a factor in how sh*t looks on you!
i meant to add what someone wears doesnt bother me if they wear their own style and things that dont completely go against their personality. i actually saw a few photo of Tulisa (N Dubz) from her x factor work. lets just say i dont think shes found a feminine style that works (shes usually in jeans and baseball cap?) theres nothing wrong with her clothes but they just dont seem 'her' at all. thats the kind of thing im talking about

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭WonderWoman!

I get what you mean ,NDubz are (IMHO) a bunch of rich chav's .
So getting a natural chav and making them to look like Cheryl Cole just wont work

I love clothes and I love when others care about what they wear and are true to themselves, and it shows! Obviously I have plenty of lazy days too. When it comes to clothes though I love the fact that i can be creative and dress in a different era whenever I want.

I don't follow fashion, I believe in cultivating your own style, and enjoying it. Style shouldn't be a chore, or elitist.

I don't like when people look like they're wearing a particular shop. It smacks of following the crowd and is boring.

Do you go for comfort or chic?
It depends what you mean by comfort. Comfort to me is having confidence in what I'm wearing, and feeling comfortable because its who I am.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Aishae

shed probably look fine if/when she settles on a style she fits. not one she thinks she should fit (cheryl cole)

i remember a quote in a movie about a wedding dress - someone asks is she going on a diet to fit into a nice dress. she says 'no, the dress should fit ME' too right (think it was monster in law)
i think theres too much trying to fit the clothes going on. not just diets. but with regards to perceiving how one should dress, or the size they want to be (wearing a 10 when they KNOW theyre a 12-14) etc
wear the right size that fits you - and you look sexier

There is definitely a difference between style and fashion. They do not always go hand in hand- in fact I'd say that if you are trying to be fashionable, you'll find it tough to be stylish. And everyone's style should their own, for sure.

too right - some of the things that are fashionable are NOT for mere mortals! and not everyone suits every fashion - as its a style and the way your carry yourself and IT, thing.
not everyone can do that socks and sandals thing for example. or wear the currently popular baggy patterened trousers.
or jumpsuits and so on. <- i just today saw an article where a fella talks about the womens 'trends' he doesnt get and those 3 i just mentioned were on the list.

sometimes i say f*ck style though - because i wanna wear my shapeless clothes or an old scooby doo t shirt
or just stay in my jammies (i do NOT venture out of the house in jammies though) <- thats one trend that needs to die

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭WonderWoman!

I agree with the murder of that horrid jammies trend it's mainly done by the chavs I've noticed but it looks lazy and slobbish , it don't take 10 seconds to hop into a trackie , I wouldn't go to college in me jammies so why is it socially acceptable to trapes around Tesco in em? :?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Aishae

its one thing in an emergency - though a pack of ciggies isnt one! its an odd trend....

Ah situations where you might find yourself in your jammies - at home, in the garden, camping, just throwing on a coat and jeans over a night dress while you get milk <- that's one thing. It's this trend of parading around the place socializing, shopping, hanging around street corners in your jammies that is way.... Bad!

Isn't there a documentary film on this somewhere... or there was a play called pajama girls or something. I'd be interested in watching it, to understand it! I think I read somewhere that its kind of a symbol of status, that you're unemployed, on the dole and therefore are justified to wear pjs during the day - its like a '**** you' to society - it was something along those lines.

    Wouldnt surprise me

In my eyes it's just another way of saying I'm a lazy slob and am not going to bother acting remotely normal

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

In fairness though, which is lazier- someone wearing a dirty pair of jeans and a manky football top, or someone who wears clean pyjamas? With different pyjamas for the daytime and stuff?

    Just sayin'.

It's a good point - if they are fresh jammies you didn't sleep in the night before then it's not that different to clothes. But you get the feeling most who do it just haven't bothered to get dressed.

I don't know what my fashion sense is to be honest :pac: I'm obviously not butch or masculine but I would be hesitant in describing my style as feminine either. That kinda gives the impression, I'm constantly in some sort of girly clothes.

I think the thing with me which I need to change, fashion-wise, is that I could be really dressed up one day and quite stylish and then the next I'd be in tracksuit bottoms and an old hoody :D

I seriously need to go clothes shopping - haven't bought new clothes in ages but it's been a real money saver :)

I'm the same but I figure a lot of us are!
As for feminine I think that just means clothes that are obviously made for the female body. Not necessarily girlie stuff. It's perfectly possible to wear a suit and look feminine if the suit fits well.
The women who prefer mens clothes for example - I reckon it depends how you wear them.

I'm the same I could have a stylish streak lasting almost a week until I cave into a pair of trackies

I'm still figuring out my 'style'. I've spent most my life in jeans and hoodies and probably will for another while but I've started messing around and trying out new things. I'd say I'm somewhere in between butch and girly. I like wearing mens shirts as dresses or as a cardigan over a t-shirt and shorts. I love wearing slightly formal looking dresses with coloured tights and combat boots.

There was also a goth phase but I'd rather forget it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭allydylan

i have never cared about fashion and doubt i ever will, i only buy clothes if i desperatly need them, at the moment all my clothes are rather big for me but i'm not gonna buy more clothes just buy more food
if it were the social norm i would happily wear pj's everywhere

but that's just on a normal day, when theres an event of some sort on i like to dress up and look my best. but in general i'm not bothered about what i wear

I feel alittle odd, but it's my own personal style. Do any other women like to wear football, gaa or rugby jerseys on occasion. I seem to be in them nearly the whole time.

Only on match days and when I'm slobbing around the house or doing strength or flexibility work at home. I'm actually wearing a Barcelona jersey right now. :pac:
