Riello Burner cycling many times before starting...

    Hi All,

I have a Riello burner on a firebird popular C35 condensing boiler.
It is pretty new - just bought new last year.
It always started up just fine within a few seconds.

Now however, it seems to 'cycle' the ignition sequence a number of times, before eventually lighting. It is NOT locking out (i.e. when we ran out of oil in feb, the boiler was locking out then when it did not ignite) - so it gets to the stage where it tries to light, and then seems to begin the cycle again. It could do this a number of times before actually lighting.

It seems to run ok once lit, but I suspect it may actually extinguish and try to re-light again periodically.

Any ideas - anything at all would be a huge help!

Check the photocell, failing that you need the Oftec man to service it.

I'm not a service engineer but sometimes I find a burner cycling a bit if theres not enough oil coming through quick enough, check filter maybe, water in oil is maybe a possibility too

oil pump on the way out too is possible.

As it's a C35, nearly 100% it's the photocell, and when you pull it out to clean most likely it will have a brownish color to the lens (a typical firebird issue)

They have now put a 'scoop' type guard over the air intake of the flue to avoid this issue on the latest version of appliance, but a good technician should know how to get around the issue (I know I do!)

What regions do you work in? Maybe if you are close, you'd come take a look?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - really appreciated !

I am in the Meath area, you?
If not, I may know someone in your area either that will sort it for you,
it wil need a good service and calibration
