Was looking at this a few weeks ago and it sounded very interesting. But I'm afraid it to out of my league.

You'll get this for probably half the price if you book it yourself and dont go through Astronomy Ireland.

    Try googleing "Northern Lights Cruise".

Things like but there are many more to choose from

    http://www.fjordtravel.no/program_arctic.html

    http://hurtigruten.co.uk/Northern-Lights/Northern-Lights-Cruises/Northern-Lights-Classic-Cruises/

We did one a few years ago that included a cruise, dog sledgeing at night under the northern lights, a night in the ice hotel.

I think including transport and the cruise it came to around €1300 each.

One of the best weeks of my life I have to say.

Or try posting in one of the UK astronomy fora and ask about them. You'll get loads of options. A lot cheaper than that pne.

Those sites are In norway itself... so doesnt include flights to there.

Have you ever seen David Moore not take a massive cut off the top for himself on anything he sells? :D

If you arent into arranging your holidays yourself, it might not be for you.

But really its just Book Flights, Book cruise, Book a hotel for a night or two in Oslo.

Try US sites as well. When you pay in dollars its always much cheaper. For some reason Europeans are prepared to pay far more than Yanks. Ive seen cruises that cost €1500, but when you go to the US site the exact same thing, same room etc is $1200. You ring the US number and insist on paying the US price with your credit card.

Pick up a tour in Oslo.
You would have to get the flights yourself. Ryanair to Oslo is about €40 return. Arrive a day or 2 early and enjoy Oslo, and there should be no risk of missing your cruise departure. Dont cut it too close in case your flight is delayed.
Be careful to make sure its a Northern Lights tour as they'll keep the lights down. Other cruises the ships are lit up so much you cant even see the stars at night.

    I just went to http://www.iglucruise.com/search-results?page=1
Looked up that same ship and look what I found (see attached image).

And thats without even looking at the other sites to get a better deal. And ringing to change flights to Ireland instead of the UK. Or even organizing your own flights.

Im getting the bug again now. I want to go again after looking at some of the Northern Lights Cruises.

I see from the piece on the Astronomy Ireland website that this cruise is been organised by Project Travel http://www.project-travel.ie/Norway_Northern_Lights_Voyages.html and that they have a range of alternative cruises.

Have to say I am getting a bit sick of the politics of astronomy on this forum as soon as there is a mention of Astronomy Ireland. All I want is clear sky's to see the most wondrous sights that nature can provide and not the bickering of a committee room.
