I have a HTC desire since November last year. Over the last couple of weeks, it's started turning itself off while idle a few times a day. I haven't installed any apps or anything recently and there is loads of memory, both on phone and SD card. Battery charges fine and usually has plenty of power in it when this happens.

Any ideas as to why its doing this?

Hi, its a known issue with HTC Desire's, phones get too hot and reboot, book a warranty repair (one inside a year of purchase) with HTC which takes about a week (for me anyway) and get a new phone (new IMEI) with existing body
