RTE have announced some details of their new Season.

Lots of the usual rubbish and same faces although there are a few interesting shows.

Good to see Mike Murphy back, and the Francis Brennan travel show should be interesting. Craig Doyle gets his consolation prize for losing the Saturday Night slot, and The Panel. I'm glad The All Ireland Talent show is gone (replaced by 'The Voice of Ireland', wish they had scrapped Celebrity Bainisteoir too.

Along with the return of favourites such as The Late Late Show, Mrs Brown's Boys, The Saturday Night Show and Celebrity Bainisteoir, RTÉ Entertainment's schedule includes:

The Voice of Ireland The newest international mega-hit brings its unique twist on talent shows to Irish screens.

Meet the Gallaghers A new comedy series starring PJ Gallagher, set in a contemporary Dublin suburb.

The Big Interview with Mike Murphy Over six programmes the legendary presenter will talk to a guest of his choice, each of whom has made a significant impact on Ireland today.

Among the new RTÉ Factual shows are:

Dylan McGrath seems to be the head guy on it.. Probably the most arrogant and conceited of the Irish celebrity chefs, and that's saying something.. why didnt they get somebody with a bit of personality like Francis Brennan (I know he's not strictly a chef, but he knows about catering) or Nevin Maguire..

I saw them talking about the new schedule on the Six One News.. I thought it was funny how the RTE General Manager was talking about being aware of how we are in difficult times.... And in the background you see all the RTE Top brass being photographed in their Sunday best with a band playing in the background and a woman walking round serving them food.. They were only short of bringing round a tray of Ferrero Rocher.. :)

To be fair, he's already doing Coach Trip 'Francis Brennan's Grand Tour'.

And he is also on 'Stars go Racing'. And 'At your Service'.
And he's been a contestant on 'The Restaurant'. And his house was on an RTE home improvement show called 'Designs for Life' a few years ago.

So he has had a good run at the RTE reality shows. I like Francis, he is very entertaining, but you would wonder where he gets time to run his Hotel :)

Guys am I the only one who thinks that RTE should just shut up shop altogether? I mean nothing but worthless boring stuff being thrown out year after year by them. Then there's the movies, can't wait to see die hard for the 53rd time surely it'll be on a Wednesday night after the news just in case anybody was living on the moon for the past 10 years and missed it. Then there's the god awful amount of these 10 year old romantic comedy's that they put out there for our viewing pleasure.

Im sick of paying a TV licence for crap that I cant stomach to watch. I know you cant please everyone RTE but ill be surprised if anyone finds your channels "entertaining"

More of these RTE x factor rip off shows, sports shows like celebrity bainisteoir and putting people like Jedward on there is just cringe worthy.

God that "All Ireland Talent Show" just took the biscuit. People who know nothing about singing (bar Dana I suppose?) deciding who's a good singer and who isn't is just laughable. Thats just my view on RTE, maybe they should copy TV3 and put out an extra channel like 3e with similar content and leave the "Irish celebrity" stuff on the main channel.

IMO the Only good stuff RTE put out there is Prime Time Investigates which I hope returns.

A Town Fights Back, a six-part series in which Feargal Quinn and a team of experts work with the citizens and businesses of one Irish town.
Sounds remarkably similar to 'Dirty Old Towns' with Diarmuid Gavin, which RTE broadcast this year.

Although Feargal Quinn is a far better person to present it - much better than Diarmuid Gavin, who came across as a Whinger and Egocentric.

Nobody's mentioned the worst of it:
Brian & Pippa's Big Fat Wedding was announced today as part of RTÉ's new autumn schedule.

Brian said: "I think it'll be great looking back because it's the whole 5/6 month build-up to the wedding so there'll be lots of things we'll have forgotten, even seeing the little teasers on the promo it was like 'woah remember that' so I'm looking forward to seeing it because we haven't seen any of it yet."

Pippa said: "It'll be like one big long wedding video that the whole country gets to watch."

So far the pair are adjusting easily to married life. Pippa said: "It feels nice to be able to call each other husband and wife, that's the only difference."

Brian added: "I'm still laughing at it when people say 'your wife', I'm like 'Your wife?! Oh yeah. . .'"

Seriously ? Two wannabe C listers (in that they're so far down, they aspire to make the C List) have their wedding taped for them as well as all the other faff ? Is this 2005 again when people were fascinated by this sort of ****e ?

Complaining to RTE isn't going to make any difference though is it ?

Yeah, looking forward to Masterchef. These cooking competition shows seem to require the surly chef judge, so mcgrath fits the bill. He knows what he's talking about too, no doubting that. I'm hopeful. Nick Munier will provide the personality aspect I'd say.

They obviously have a PC or laptop to give their witticisms about "here comes another C-list celebrity" on a chat show. So I think they also have access to other media and forms of entertainment too. Just a guess like.

I thought, God, he can actually not be camp when he wants to be. Brian & Pippa's Big Fat Wedding would mean the same to me if it was 'Tom & Mary's Big Fat Wedding' assuming Tom & Mary are a random couple picked out of obscurity. It's ridiculous oul' tat! I bet Brian & Pippa were able to defray the cost of the wedding based on what Montrose paid for this ****e!

Really disappointed with RTE the past few years. At least at the turn of the century we had interesting shows like Treasure Island and the panel, thats how you do reality tv shows and comedy. Its equivalent these days seem to be the same tired muck in celebrity banisteoir and/or popstar garbage or unfunny comedians like Pj Gallagher.

I can't think of a single RTE show I've enjoyed in the past 5 years, really desperate. RTE has some really good sports, news and current affairs programming, no doubt but their entertainment lineups..my god they're beyond woeful. I think the rise of the internet and online downloading/streaming has badly exposed RTE as they can no longer rely on american imports.

Gráinne Seoige's Modern Life Gráinne Seoige presents this new series for RTÉ Two which looks at a range of different aspects of modern life with particular relevance to Irish women.

This show stinks of 'We haven't got much for Grainne to do, make up a vague show something about Women's lifestyle, anything at all'

The Schedule revolves around making vehicles for their 'stars' rather than making original programming.

It boggles the mind that woman is not only employed by a TV station but given 3 different TV shows. Its doesn't take rocket science to see that someone having 8 shows axed on them in 5 years pretty much proves the public don't want to watch her on TV

Saw an ad earlier highlighting RTÉ's American imports this coming season, surprised to see The Big Bang Theory highlighted. Not because I think it's a bad show, I like it, but because RTÉ previously gave this show minimal attention. (Season 1 was Fridays @ 9, then they stopped for a while, before relegating it to a midweek graveyard slot). As far as I know they haven't even shown seasons 3 or 4. I switched to E4 long ago. Any reasons why they might have had this sudden attitude change?

The highlights and lowlights from what I can see:

    * The Big Interview with Mike Murphy (New): daft title, but a welcome return to the screen for Murphy after many years off air.

    * The Voice of Ireland (New). Reformat of the All-Ireland Talent Show. Anything they can do to imporve it welcome.

    * Put Em Under Pressure (New): why didn't they just ressurect Know Your Sport? Could be worth a look though.

    * Meet the Gallaghers (New): Its an RTÉ sitcom. I can't remember any that have been semi-sucessful since Upwardly Mobile. Not filled with confidence.

    * Mrs Brown's Boys (Season 2). No. Kill it. Why have the BBC given this a network commission?

    * Who Knows Ireland Best? (New). Daft title, but seems like an interesting premise.

    * Zig and Zag's Superbloopers (New). And I thought those two had been consigned to the scrapheap. Could be a laugh.

    * Tuesday Night Social with Craig Doyle (New). Essentially seems like a reformat of The Panel. I could be wrong...

    * Republic of Telly (Season 5). I seem to be the only person that likes this. Obviously I'm not, or RTÉ wouldn't have renewed it again. (Either that or it is incredibly cheap TV, seeing as it either consists of clips or segments filmed on RTÉ property).

    * Raw (Season 4). As long as the excellent Charlene McKenna continues to do this (and the writers keep giving her the good lines) they can keep make this IMHO.

    * The Hardy Bucks (Season 2). I didn't watch this. I refuse to watch a programme where the characters are named Boo, Buzz, and the Viper.

    * Untitled Two Tube entertainment show: the latest reincarnation of Jo Maxi?

    * OMG Jedward's Dream Factory! (New). Or John and Edward Will Fix It. I don't want them to.

    * Fianna Fail (One-Off): Could be interesting documentary.

    * Crimecall (Season 8) (Reformat). There are only so many ways you can do Crimewatch UK, so don't expect it to be too much of a reformat, but Grainne Seoige has been given Anne Cassin's seat.
