I currently need to lose about 4 stone, I have joined a gym and also working on my diet.

I got a city deal offer for hypnosis for €65 so i decided I am going to give it a try inconjunction with what Im currently doing.

I know alot of people believe this is a waste of money but for those interested I am going on monday 15th Aug and will post an update afterwards.

    Nothing ventured nothing gained!!

If anyone has tried this and have any insight before I go would love to hear from you.

Be very specific about what you want. I've been hypnotised a few times, but the one really successful one was the time I asked to not like the taste of sweets and chocolate. That was last November, and I haven't eaten a sweet, biscuit, cake or chocolate since then. I just can't tolerate the taste of anything sweet.

Asking to eat less or not eat junk is not as specific and likely to result in less useful results.

    Hi lilyjclare

Congratulations on booking a hypnosis session for weight loss. The important thing with any hypnosis session is that you truly want to change. The hypnotist will taylor the session to meet your needs and EileenG is right be very specific with your requiremnts so that the correct suggesions can be given by the hypnotist. Hypnosis is not a magic bullet for a successful outcome you will still need to really want to change the habits etc that have caused you to be over weight in the first place. You will still need to visit the gym and continue to work on your diet. Ask the hypnotist to add suggestions for working at the gym, the diet and in your self confidence.

Visualistation is a great tool to use after the hypnosis on a daily basis to see yourself as slim. If you would like some support in this area I can send you a 5 minute visualistaion recording that I created for a local Zest4life weight loss groups and a simple guide to visualiation.

Good luck with your session and i look forward to hearing your report.

    @ EileenG

Can you tell me if as well as deciding to not like the taste of anything sweet but can you decide that you like the taste of veg and other foods that one did not like previously. I am refering in particular to green veg in particular.

    THanks

That, I don't know. I suspect it's easier to create an aversion to something than to make you like it. But if it's only one vegetable you don't like, I wouldn't worry about it.

Its quite a few I dont like but if perhaps I could start with the aversion to sweet things it would be a great start.

If you dont mind could you PM whom you went to see for this.

    Thanks

    Hi frAg

There are many reasons why a person may not like certain foods. Hypnotherapy can help you discover what they are and help you change the types of foods you want if that is your desire.

Suggestion therapy may be enough to help you like vegetables and if not a number of sessions of hypnoanalysis will find the reason and then it can be removed.

I have worked with a chap who did not like green veg and we traced this dislike to an experience in his childhood. I changed his perception using his adult knowledge and awareness of the past event and he was then able to eat vegetables. It took him a while to get used to the tasteand texture but he has no issues with them now.

If you need more information please pm me.

Now, I'm very interested in this. I have had hypnotherapy for smoking and it was very successful. I also had it done for another phobia. So I know that I am susceptible to it and it works.
I have however had it done three times for weight loss and alas... I'm still 16 stone.
I believe that my therapist - same person for all above - was very much concentrating on my portion control and my food choices. I am a healthy eater, don't eat much processd food, have salads for lunch, bran flakes for brekkie and a decent dinner.
Yes, my portions for dinner could be smaller. But it's my lack of control as regards snacking. I would think nothing of eating a bar of chocolate or TWO - or half a cake etc. SELF SABOTAGE.......... and this is what I need to conquery.

I'd love to know, EileenG if you can recommend a therapist and what they concentrated on with you...................has anyone overcome SELF SABOTAGING via hypnotherapy.

As I mentioned, I had great results when I asked to not want sweets anymore. I think the key phrase was that I didn't consider them food anymore. That worked very well for me, but other sessions that tried to reduce snacking etc didn't seem to have anything like the same results.

I read somewhere before that what you eat for breakfast in the morning can influence what food you "crave" during the day.

So if you're eating Bran Flakes (essentially a big bowl of sugar and processed crap) first thing in the morning, it's not surprising that you crave the sugary processed crap again later on in the day.

Personally I think it would benefit you more to learn what healthy eating actually involves - rather than just believing what the marketers want you to believe, about Bran Flakes and other "healthy" foods!

To be honest, I wouldn't have a whole lot of faith in hypnotherapy, but even if it did work, there's no point in you being successfully hypnotised to make you eat what you believe to be healthy foods, if you haven't educated yourself on what you should be eating.
