    Hi all,

I'm going to university this coming September and I'm already after applying for the Back to Education Allowance - I'm fairly certain that I'll be eligible of this payment.

However, I would also like to apply for the grant in order to cover the 2000euro student contribution fee.

What body must I apply to in order get this grant ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you live in Cork city then Cork City Council

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

hi, you have to apply to your Local Authority asap.
I wonder how much will I get from Dublin City Council, will they pay all contribution fee or only half of it?I know there are limits and I do not exceed with my partner 51,380 which is indicated in table A, schedule 1 (http://www.studentfinance.ie/downloads/Student%20Grant%20Scheme%202011.pdf), p 35. but I cannot understand where there is said that (in condition according to this income limit) :
-maintenance not payable( I understand that if I'm in receipt of BTEA I am not eligible to maintenance element)
-50% tuition fees and 100% student contribution-what does it mean? does it mean that if I'm eligible for 100% free contribution, do I have to pay 50% of tuition fee? Anyone knows? Last few days I have been spending on this...

No, it means if you are eligible for free fees i.e. doing an under grad course at level 6,7 or 8 for the first time, then you are only liable for the student contribution of 2000 euro and if your income is below the level you have indicated above, then you are eligible for 100% free contribution, the 50% tuition fee applies to people who are not entitled to free fees i.e. people doing a post grad course.

    august 12 thanks a lot...
is my first time so I'm very confused and I'd like to know everything before starting course..
Do you know maybe how does the process of payment contribution look like? I mean, if I get contribution fee from Dublin City Council, this amount will be transferred from them to DCU or do I have to pay it first to DCU and after time will I get money return from council?

As far as I know, providing you meet all the conditions of the scheme and qualify for the student contribution, it is paid to the University, if you have already paid the fee yourself, then on receipt of letter from Council confirming you have qualified for the contribution fee, this letter you take to the college to be stamped and return to the council. when they receive it, they then forward the fee to the college who in turn will refund to you if you have already paid it but it would be wise to let the college know that you have paid the fee yourself and wish to have it refunded to you. some colleges will wait a while for the fee, not sure about DCU.
