last few days had pain in back of mouth and it now feels like there s 2 hard bits coming down through gum?? cant see cos there at top back of mouth.. going to get x ray tomorrow. .is it likely they missed one??

Yes this is very common and known as Lazarus Wisdom teeth....;);)

No really, you have a few possibilities....

    • They were not removed previously (get your old xray and compare it with the new xray tomorrow to see). They may have only removed your premolars prior to your ortho...
    • It may just be a sharp area of bone under the gum, the gum may have become traumatized by food or something hot and is not more obvious to you now.
    • The wisdom teeth are the 8th tooth from the front/center, it is uncommon but some people have a tooth behind that called a supernumerary or a 9....! If it is that, they often don't erupt as they are fairly far back and it's hard to see why it was not removed at the original surgery too....
Let us know how you get on with the xray tomorrow, I'd be interested in the result.

    Good luck,
    OS

To not provide the treatment or discharge a patient in the belief that they had a particular treatment completed is bad practice...
Sure, I've had patients who don't fully understand the finer points of treatment but whether a tooth is removed or not is pretty clear cut to most...

Do you remember having a wound in all 4 corners of the mouth?
Is it just one wisdom tooth remaining or more?
Who paid for the treatment? VHI, Quinn, Aviva?? You can ring them and ask what the consultant claimed for and if he/ she got paid for all 4 wisdoms??

Keep us up to date Jenny,

    Good luck,
    OS

Hey I have scars on that side from when I got them out. Remember it as got mouth ulcers right after getting them out n the pain was awful. Was told that liability only lasts for 7 years. So mightn't have a leg to stand on . I'm sooo angry it not even funny n dreading next tues.been getting awful pains in that side of face on n off for past few years but never looked into wisdom tooth possibility as had supposedly had them out. :'(

Thats called statute of limitations and is in the US only. Also its 7 years from the date you became aware of the issue.

Dont listen to friends about dentistry, medicine or law they know nothing about anything and will confuse you with half truths not matter how well intentioned the advice is.
