fan wont work unless its on the highest setting

    Hi all, just a quick question. my opel mervira fan has stopped working .it will only work if i have it on at the highest setting which is 4.
    Is it a fuse that is gone or is it more techinal and can anyone/garage fix it. how much will it cost to fix approx//

    Normally when that happens its the blower motor resistor thats at fault. Its fairly common on BMW's and a few other cars and I've replaced a good few of them.
    For your car I wouldn't say the resistor would be too expensive and its a DIY job. They can be tricky to get at sometimes but a quick google should show up details on how to replace it.

    Yeah, its either the resistor pack or the fan motor itself. You may have had water ingress to the motor which is causing it to give trouble. Had the same problems with a focus with the same symptoms and it was the motor that packed in.
