    hello!
my name is Sinead, Im 24 and ive been living in Dublin for almost 8 years.
I work part time in a bar in town and spend the rest of my time trying to occupy myself with more important things like not working:)
Im study psychology part time from September and also Im relearning Gaeilge.
Im really into trad music and I sing at afew sessions in town and im learning the flute..apart from that Im into lots of different music and hang out alot in the 'lefty' scene. whatever that is.. basically im interested in whats going on around me and enjoy the odd discussion!
Im in a feminist collective who write a magazine once a year who are based in seomra spraoi, a local social centre.

Im living on the North side at the moment and my contract is up in October.
I really wanna find a nice big house with three or four bedrooms that accepts rent allowance and isnt too far outside the city centre, i want some kind of backyard and a nice big living room and kitchen. Id also like to live with people who are up for decorating and making the place a home. i dont mind if its on the north or south but Id like to find an older house with high ceilings and fireplaces...

I just wanna live with vegans or veggies, Im veggie myself but eat alot of vegan. I love to cook and im happy to share food. I wanna live in a relaxed house with people my age or older, Im happy to have a sociable house with friends coming through and dinners an the occasional session:)
Im fairly easy going about the house I think you need to figure out the dynamics as you go anyway. Long as your not a total slob we should be fine!

    mail me if you're interested!:):D

that's a lot to ask, it's hard enough for me to get people to take this house here let alone if I was fussy about who I wanted. If you're renting I don't think the landlord is going to be cool with you redecorating! Have you tried the roommate database on daft?

    thats quite negative.
why would you reply with that?
im looking for housemates not a negative opinion. this isnt the first flat ive rented..so yes actually, its absolutely possible to find a big place to rent that where the landlord doesnt mind you putting your stamp on it. plus white paint isnt that expensive you know:)
if i didnt think it was possible i wouldnt be looking. i posted here because i want to live with people who dont eat meat.
i didnt really see the point to your post.
    but..ehhhhh....yeah, cool.. i guess.

ummm sorry you took it up so negatively, really wasn't meant that way
Just pointing out it is a big ask, you're looking for big kitchen and sitting room, high ceilings etc, on a rent allowance budget. Best of luck with it but I think maybe if you placed the same ad on daft roommate database you might have more luck!

ok, i appreciate you telling me that, i probably read it to fast..

i have used daft before but i found it hard to find people who i would gel with, i dont eat meat, im not a 9 to 5 worker and i dont wanna live in a house thats already been blandly decorated.

i think its easy to find a house with high ceilings and fire places because i want to live georgian or victoian house, dublin is full of them:)
they also almost always have a garden or back yard.. they always have a huge living room and kitchen. they also usually have around 4 or 5 massive bedrooms so if you search daft for houses that accept rent allowance then bam! you got it:)
it can take a while to find a great one which is why im looking now for moving in october.
the first and foremost thing for me is that i get to live with veggies or vegans..so i posted on a veggie /vegan forum as opposed to daft roommate database.

I can think of some houses like that on Botanic road where I used to live but the house was divided out into flats and I was upstairs so the rooms were still smallish. But the downstairs bedrooms were quite big, they were shared though because of this. Might be worth checking out around there still.

Totally agree with you. I currently live in a Georgian flat, my Grandmother owns the building. She has also owned other Georgian houses in town so i know that you're going to have to compromise with the size you're looking for if you are on rent allowance.. It might be easier if you have more people to share with but you may only be able to find flats with 2/3 bedrooms...

Also, can't see a landlord letting an major decorating happen. .

oh yikes, think I might be to blame for this turning into such a negative thread :o

I've been scanning daft recently, will probably have to find somewhere new myself soon and I'm really not seeing anything like this. Even though you would think it'd be easier to get somewhere better in the current climate, a lot of places wont even accept rent allowance as landlords want reliable people and don't want the hassle of having to deal with people moving out due to money issues and then trying to look for new tenants.

Just had a quick look through Daft.ie as well. Even smaller houses that are modernly decorated are looking for high rent. These aren't even Georgian.
I think the OP will have to look for a smaller place to share. You can still find somewhere nice and homely though. It just may not be your ideal place.

    Good luck :)

If it's not too late/idea for someone else in a similar boat - stick an add up in Seomra Spraoi itself or better still, drop in and talk to people. I think you might like it there, OP. I'll be be there next Tues evening. You could try the other veggie restaurants too but I don't recall seeing such ads before - more gigs and events posters.

A veggie friend stuck an add up and he got a place with a garden to boot to grow his own. Seomra only seems to be open in the evenings though. And I think that they have vegan food on Tuesdays now too (saw a flier for that there yesterday but I thinks Tuesdays are 1-course meal days).

There's also the occasional vacancy in commune type places but they're usually Wicklow direction.
