Went to social welfare today to tell them and I was told id have to queue.

Ok I dont mind that, but I was 139th in the queue.

    Could this effect my payment?

If the unpaid work experience is not sanctioned by FÁS, then you would no longer receive any payments. The reasoning from FÁS is that you would not be able to look for work if you are working full-time.

However, if the unpaid work experience is a Job Bridge Internship, you would keep your current entitlements and get a €50 supplement. If the experience you were offered is the former, you should ask your potential employer to register the work experience as a Job Bridge Internship so that you can keep your dole, and it wouldn't cost the employer anything.

The poster above is indeed correct. You "choose" to undertake this unpaid placement, at your own discretion, and are therefore no longer eligible for social welfare payments. It's basically at your own discretion, and you choose this over paid work. That's the theory behind it.

Best is to check with your employer first whether or not this placement is part of the JobBridge initiative. If it IS: you get an extra little bonus on top of your dole. If it ISN'T: if you inform the social welfare office that are you doing a placement, you will lose your benefits.
