Made-Up Teams

The league I play in has had a bit on controversy in the last two years as regards as made-up team, if everyone knows what I mean!

Basically most teams are made up of pub teams and the best throwers in different areas all congregating together, but then you have a team where nobody is from the same place but are all great throwers just going around winning all the tournaments and hoovering up prize money

Just wondering - this a problem in anyone else's league??

it generally happens in every town league and up. The better players are usually friendly with each other and know one and other from bigger/county games, hang in the same social circles so they just kind of call each other cause they like winning.

Packed teams are just come with the territory. This is why leagues tend to turn into a 2-3 horse race with all the top players wanting to win.

Only way to beat them is "pack" a team of your own.

or you could try and get voted in at your AGM that only 2/3 county players are allowed play on the same team per game. it might encourge lads to spread themselves around a bit more. in our league, you can sign 20 county players if you like but only 2 can play each night.

that imho is the most useless solution ever and destroys county teams the country over.

Tons of players give up on going for their county because they can't play with their mates who'd they'd normally be drinkin with anyway on a friday night or whatever due to silly rules like the above.

Basically this weakens the county team while leaving the pub team practically untouched.
For example could you see Jacko Barry giving up playing with his brother on a Friday so they could both represent Dublin once a year?

Theres also the other factor where alot of the better players in most counties don't really care about playing county darts anyway so they can bend the country player rule. I can think of at least 10 or so players who could easily make the Mayo panel if interested 3 or 4 who would be top county players and could take them from nearly men to a side with a great chance of winning the All Irelands but don't bother.

Also theres the fact theres at least 30 players borderline as good as the weaker end of the panel who could easily be on there ahead of them barring one bad day at the rankings or whatever. Theres not a huge gap between county players and the better pub throwers around here of which theres 7 or 8 in every town all average 65+ all the time.

Its not near as black and white as county players > pub players.

Thats like telling a top GAA club you can only play 2 of your 12 county players per games but if those players stop playing for said county they can play club. Ridiculous and one of the very reasons thats holding the game back.

Great post Pad, I also know alot of lads well capable of playing county darts and refusing call ups because of these ridiculous rules:rolleyes:
