I bought my first car in 83'.....a 69' 2-door Ford Cortina. I loved it and I hated it, I can still remember pulling up outside my house and a wing mirror falling off !! (Don'y ask me how it happened !!) Other thank the fading paint, rust patches, un-lockable passenger door, the passenger window that leaked, REALLY noisy exhaust and the 100 rips in the interior, it was GREAT. I can remember the day I got rear-ended by a bus !!! I almost cried....luckily the insurance paid out and I got sorted with a MK 2 Ford Fiesta :D.

So....what was you fist car ?? Why did you like it and why did you hate it ?

    Renault Clio 1.2 8v

Loved it cos it was my first run around, would have done anything in it..loads of road trips and memories in that car.
I'd love to buy it back!

Currently driving a Renaultsport 182 trophy 4ish years later.
    Nothing I don't like about Clios. :)

A 00 Daewoo Matiz in green. I named it Kermit and I absolutely loved it, it was in great nick when I got it and I took really good care of it. It was so small you could nearly park it in a trolley bay and the fuel economy was fab, about €30 would do me for 3 weeks of driving in and out of work and other places. There was more room in the boot than you'd think also, managed to fit a lot of shopping in there.

Nothing I hated about it at all. I think I had it about 3 years and then I traded it in for a bigger car.

A 92 Suzuki Cultus (imported Swift) 1.0l. I got a new radio installed but after that, at night you could only use either lights or radio.

Only had it about 2 weeks and some scumbags burnt it out outside the house I was renting at the time in Clontarf.

I loved it cos I didn't have to take public transport anymore. Can't say I had it long enough to hate it. We were still in the honeymoon period when "the incident" occurred.

    1981 Toyota Celica.
Rubbish engine, same as the one in the old corolla.

    01 Citroen xsara.

Liked it cause it was comfortable and felt fairly solid on the road. It also did 40000 miles in the time it was driving.

For the two years i had it, it only drove for one of them due to big bills and a little bit of lazyness on my part. It was always one thing or another with it.

    It got crushed yesterday.

only started driving in 2002 so got a 98 Renault Megane for my first car...,.
those was tough times and I barely made it through it...no electric windows, no central locking and no aircon:eek:, but somehow I managed :D

Seat Ibiza, 1.05L. Brillant white with sunroof. Owner before me wanted to look like the real deal and had the GTi sticker on it so most people thought mine was the 1.8L one. Loved that car but had to sell it to go travelling, broke my heart doing it.

    89 Opel Corsa 1.0.

Towards the end it was barely driving - you had to have the knack or it'd stop halfway across a junction :)

92 Honda Civic 4 door. Bought her off the docks. What a great car !

1988 Subaru Justy 1L. Learning to drive and it was perfect for the job, cost ridiculous euro, garage probably played me for a sap. The guy that owned it before me was a photographer. 3 weeks after I bought it he stands out on the street in front of me and asks can he check the back pockets. Sure enough in it were camera filters probably worth more than the car.

A 1983 Datsun / Nissan Sunny Safari. Blue with the safari go fast stripes, vinyl roof (What were car manufacturers thinking?) and a leaky sun roof. Bought it in 89 and it was very rusty then, actually, pieces of it were missing. One rear door had a dodgy hinge, the boot ended up being held closed by some wire and the head gasket blew - But I loved her.........!!

99 Polo, when I sold it the guy asked me how long did I reckon was left in it, I said many years. He's still driving around in it, the exact same way as I left it.

For my first car, in 1999 I acquired a 1988 Ford Escort. Blue lion print fluffy seat covers. Speedometer stuck at 188000 miles. No idea what speed I was moving at. Petrol level broke also so pot luck if you had enough fuel for the drive. Exhaust back box fell off whilst driving into Sandyford Industrial Estate in rush hour traffic. A bit of rust here and there... Sweet! :)

    A much maligned 1996 1.3 fiesta.

I'd still drive it today if the clutch hadnt gone - and the repair would have been more than it was worth.

She's still parked up on the street lol

    1991 1.0L Ford Fiesta....

    The White Wocket....

had it for 2 years before someone robbed and murdered it from outside where i worked.

It had a CHOKE!!! And a little Fido Dido (Before he came back) sticker on the back...

Oh yeah, and an injection sticker on the back too... I used to joke that the injection bit referred to what i had had the day i bought her.

The horn (on the light stalk) only worked when the lights were on.

    Man i hated that car!!
But I wanted to be the one to put it to sleep, not someone else. So that annoyed me.

A 1981 Vauxhall Astra (bought from my Dad in 1990). Even though they were sold / badged here as the Opel Kadett, my Dad bought this from new (must have been a grey market import or something, I was only 11 at the time so didn't really know about these things), but it had a...*radio*. LW and MW bliss :) The first thing I did when I got my hands on it was to put in an FM radio / cassette deck. Cruising around wearing Ray Ban Wayfarers (the height of fashion:cool:), with GnR blaring out of the tinny speakers. Good times :).

A 1966 two-door Morris Minor. Took it apart and put it back together again. Fitted twin carbs off a dumped MG Midget. Field car that was supposed to be a learner car to get a licence, but that didn't happen. Was eventually butchered as a donor car for another Minor.

Then a twenty year gap as a car didn't seem particularly useful.

Then a red, two-door early 90's Suzuki Swift, which joyriders tried to nick and buggered up the door fit and dash. Only had it a few months and sold it on to buy a Nissan Pao I spotted in London. Swift was perfect learner car - even without power steering - as it was light and forgiving. Probably not as good a car as a Micra - but slightly less granny looking. Put cappuccino alloys on it and sprayed the pillars black for that, eh, GTI look - if you squinted hard enough.

Relatively hassle free motoring, except when you want to overtake:P. I thought I would kind of miss it until I sat into it again after having my mondeo for two weeks, no going back now:D good memories though.

Bought in 2003 on the day I passed my driving test, a 2000 Rover 25 1.4ie.

Had it for just under 2 years. Gearbox went after a friend borrowed it. With 105bhp from a 1.4 it was quite nippy. Traded it for a brand new Citroen C4 coupe in 2005 - which the misus still drives. I've gone through several cars since 2005 as I get bored easily:rolleyes:

Actually bad headgaskets are on rovers k16 engines... and bad not a headgasket itself, but bad engine design (too long head bolts).

puntos has problems with cooling system, and if it fails, automatically headgasket gone. It is over owner negligence check coolant condition and level, reason of overheating and headgasket failure.

In 1987, after a few months of driving my mum's '73 VW Beetle, I bought a 1984 Ford Orion 1.6 GL.

In 5 years I only put a clutch and starter motor in to it.

It had 168,000 miles on it when I sold it for £250 in 1992, by which time the rust bug and well and truly taken hold.
