The first four, while pretty, are holiday snaps IMHO.

The last one is an excellent capture.

I agree with you 5uspect, they are really just snaps. Technically, I don't think there's much wrong with them but they're fairly ordinary, no wow factor. Maybe I need to stick my neck out more and not be afraid to piss people off by pointing the camera at them.

you dont need to stick your neck out more.... just think about the pictures and compose them, take your time instead of just pressing the button.

Thanks, I think composition is my weak point. I do take some time and give the composition thought but maybe I just don't know what to look for. I suppose it could be a matter of looking for potential and waiting around for the right moment. It's a bit frustrating really! :) How do I move on?...

Neptune's grotto is pretty good alright. This was my crappy shot I took in there cause I forgot to bring most of my kit out with me that day :

The second hat man photo would be great if he were walking towards you. Especially if you're a Team Fortress 2 fan.

I'd say obvious way to move on is to get a book on composition and read and understand about the dynamics of an image.
Then loads of practice and critique until you are making progress - my 2 cents .

I read the Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman. I didn't really click with me, found it quite dry. Might be worth another read.
