    Hi all,

I recently got engaged and I am wondering what are the alternative venues for civil ceremonies in Dublin City Centre? We are thinking of going to Gretna Green in Scotland if we can not find something that suits here. Ideal/Dream wedding would be to find a nice venue centrally located for myself and himself to get married in, as we have to give witness information when we register at a push the parents/siblings will be there too.

We are both not into huge affairs and I think a beautiful place to say our vows then go for a slap up meal either lunch or dinner depending on the time the ceremony is on would be a great day for us. To make sure the rest of the family/friends are included and do not get the hump we said we could have a party soon after in a cool venue, stocked bar and great 40's-80's music by DJ to make sure everyone dances and has a laugh (therefor no eyes on us and hopefully it wont cost an arm and a leg!)

Also, I know many threads have been posted about this so apologies for starting a new one :( Any help or ideas you could give would be great.

Any sugestions for ceremony venue (my dream would be the National Gallery of Ireland but I dont know if that is an option??), great food for the immediate family (Bentley's or Fire maybe?) and a venue we could decorate ourselves and get our own DJ.....

Many thanks for reading this, any input you have or past experience would be greatly appreciated. Im really stuck at the mo!

The museum of modern art do wedding receptions, I know its not exactly what you are looking for but it could be interesting, we are getting married in the Unitarian church in Stephens green it a lovely building and right in the city centre you can design you own ceremony provide it covers all the legal aspects.

That would be amazing! Thanks so much for your replies, I really appreciate it. Do you have to be an ex student of TCD to be married in that church?

The ceremony in Hugh lane would be amazing, I suppose I will wait and talk to the registrar and see what buildings can be used...Ive heard good things about Dublin Castle and read here that the Registry office office on Lombard Street is fine.

Still loads of research and planning to do :( Its scary stiff allright!

Exactly how free are you to design the ceremony for the unitarian church?? do you have a say in how religious it is?

What they said to us was as long as it complies with the legal requirement and was dignified the ceremony could be any way we wanted, they have had everything from rock band to people playing Nick Cave to people dancing and chanting, you would be better off going in and talking to someone in there.
