Year Repeat Costs

It's likely that I will have to repeat 3-4 modules for my course next year and I was wondering if anyone that has experience in this knows the cost involved?

If I was to repeat outside as an exam only student, what is people's experience with attending lectures and such. Since it is likely if the costs are too high I will be unable to afford otherwise.

€150, irregardless of how many subjects you have to repeat.

No thats just first time repeat exams.

If your repeating external, you have no access to the WIT Network (Moodle, Internet, etc) or tutors and just pay for the repeats when they come along afaik. That's the €150 regardless of how many repeats you have.

    You don't pay registration fee.

And if I was to repeat internally I would have to pay full registration and fees no matter how many modules?

You pay per module, plus registration. Costly enough, so if you think you would be better served going to lecturers rather than sitting out and studying without being in class - up to you. Some lecturers are easy going about it, others are not (in terms of helping).

The cost depends on each course, and reception will be able to assist you with the exact costs. :)

Ok, thanks for the help. Going to see if I can get through these repeats first anyway, hopefully I pass enough so I can progress carrying two. Will save a lot of money in the long run. Thanks again.

2 I think, assuming one of the two is not a requirement for next year.

Is there any leniancy to this do you know? Would there be any chance I could fail 3 and continue on?

    Nope.

Unless theres some very specific circumstances or some mistake that was missed. You'd need to bring it up with your course leader anyway.

Was starting to guess you were in Multimedia :pac:.

There were some issues with one or two people in my class this previous year, so when it comes to results just double check Music Skills as thats the one they had problems with. Programming generally works out though.

Best bet is to email Caroline the course head and see what she says.

i think anyone in multimedia that was border line and failed were passed by the course board. any one that still failed after that failed by a large amount and that wont change.

I think the School of Science is one of the better departments in WIT, so at least you have that on your side. But no, I don't think so and they are probably right because that's 4+3 extra modules. It is a lot to take on.

Speak with your course leader anyway. There not back until September, but you might be lucky (I doubt it) and get a reply before then.

Am I right in how I understand this: You pay €150 to repeat the exams you failed in the repeats in august, next year? But you cant go to college (use computers, library, attend tutorials etc), so you basically work for the year or draw dole or something? Where do you do the repeats? Do you do them in the college hall again next summer? And if you pass the repeat exams, you go back into the second year of your course and continue like normal? Im guessing you just repeat the exams you failed also?

You pay the €150 in May/June for whichever subjects you failed -- when the option to enter for Repeat Exams appears. You do the repeats as you would if you were a full time student, in one of the rooms or the hall. Once passed, you are free to resume your next year as normal.

But when repeating externally you cant use the college network or attend lectures (unless otherwise arranged with a nice lecturer). Library is fine to use, including taking out books.

I'm fairly sure the above is accurate anyway. :)

Ah right ok. So whats the story with lectures/tutorials for the first week or 2? Am I right in thinking the repeat results are not out until the second/third week in september, so do we go to lectures/tutorials until then like normal? How do you go about organising with a nice lecture to sit in on lectures if in the case that you took the year out to work so you are not a full time student. Do you email them or is it best to talk to them in person?

Sadly, at least in WIT anyway, you return to Semester 2 as normal for a few weeks until you learn what your results are. If you have to stop, you have to stop. Awkward eh? If your taking a year out without paying full fees, arrange to meet them and chat about it. They may or may not let you.

If your carrying the subject, you just pay the €150 to repeat it again and carry on with the other subjects as normal. No other fees should apply.

Can you draw the dole if you are repeating 1 internally and 1 externally?
