Irelands worst water features

I played Sutton a few weeks ago for the 1st time and although I enjoyed the round and the course, the little pond infront of the par3 6th is horrendous. It's ugly and is completely out of place. It's possibly the worst water feature i've ever seen on a course. They should do away with it completely and let the rough grow in it's place in my opinion.

So the 6th at Sutton gets my vote. What gets yours?

4th hole in Birr just cause its too damm hard to miss the damm thing!! Leaves a tiny fairway to hit unless you can drive 300 yards.

The pond in front of the 18th green at the European Club. It just does not fit the course and on the last hole of all places.

That's a burn now and not really a pond, though it is still a little strange (and not easy to negotiate).

My vote goes to anything with a fountain. Stupid, gaudy, noisy yokes. There's one on the left of 18 at Palmerstown for example...

I couldn't agree more!! Without doubt one of the best (THE best imho) courses in the country, real proper links, with a weird fake Barry burn style snaking pond across 18. Weird, unnecessary and out of place. Only flaw mr ruddy made in what is an amazing place

+1 - they just scream Celtic Tiger pointlessness to me. This is Ireland, there is normally water flowing from the sky. What on earth a pathetic little fountain in the middle of a pond adds to anything is really beyond me.

I wouldn't be too fond of the 18th in Lucan , nasty reed ridden greenside lake and completed with a fake duck .

Such a weird hole that! I don't know whether I like it or hate it.

Surprised to hear you say that...I'm a member, so maybe I'm biased but I'd consider the 18th to be one of the better holes on the course! The green could be probably be fairly criticised but the lake takes nothing away from the hole imho. And the plastic duck is absent as much as he's around these days!

+1 on the 18th at the European though- looks completely out of place.

I'd have to defend Lucan too, the slope filters towards the water so without it a good drive would leave little deterant to blasting one towards the green.

    If certainly makes you think.

Sometimes a fountain is added to a pond to make the water features presence obvious from back along the fairway. If the water feature can be clearly see from the tee/fairway then a fountain can look like a gimmick, but they do aid oxygenating the water.

Seem to remember either 1 or 2 horrendous man made ponds on the 18th in Leopardstown. Really should have made bunkers out of them instead a truly horrific end to a truly horrific course!

It's hard to believe that the 7th at Smurfit hasn't been mentioned yet.

Love the course but the little fountain on the 17th Killeen Course Killarney is pointless. Just looks wrong IMHO

the toilet near the 12th hole in shannon is the worst water feature i ever seen. the floater left in it didn't make it too inviting

the toilet near the 12th hole in shannon is the worst water feature i ever seen. i still have nightmares because of that floater. it was a result of bad guinness i'd say

I like a nice fountain - I think they look nice.

Agreed, a very risky 2nd if your going for it & you just might have too, super finishing hole bet it's wrecked loads of cards.
