It isn't very often I see a car I don't recognise, but it happened today.

Must have been about 10 years Old, wide and low looking, front looked like a cross between a 90s patrol and a nissan cube. It was nowhere near as big as a patrol though. Kinda qashqai size

It was really boxy, had round headlights, and had a spare wheel mounted on the back door.

    Any ideas?

Wasn't a Nissan Pao ? They don't have a rear mounted wheel though, unless there is an aftermarket kit.

I haven't seen one of them in Ireland:eek:

They are called a Nissan but Nissan don't actually make them. The same company made the Nissan Figaro afaik.

Are they not just a reskinned Micra?

Have seen a few really odd jap imports alright, some even the badge was weird, thread jogged my memory that was gonna post, last one think was a honda, kinda people carrier small car (similar class to a yaris verso) except boxier, think it had a sliding door too.
Seen a few strange looking ones,
that Nissan pao looks cool, never seen one those before, wiki says its a K10 Micra spin off,

Yup, but like most of those wierd Micra(and other model) Nissan spin offs they weren't actually made by Nissan themselves, companies like pike factory and mitsuoka make them using Nissan platforms and mechanicals.

They were actually based on a Nissan Sunny 4x4 platform and were JDM market only. They are a Nissan model made by Nissan.

Lots of info on them on the net. There was a similar one to the photo knocking about UCD a few years back.

My last post was about the Figaro:). The rasheen is based on the JDM Pulsar platform alright. They are officially made for Nissan, but its a seperate company that creates the body designs and assembles the cars.

After a quick search for the name(I couldn't remember but I knew it wasn't one of the names I posted above) I found it, Takada kogyo. They made/designed the figaro, pao, rasheen, 180sx, s13 and s15 cabriolets as well as non Nissan models, most notably, the 2 door wrx sti.

They also designed the GTR Z-tune:eek:

    See here...http://www.takada-kogyo.jp/company/history.html#y1990 (translation required)

    Edit:should have pressed refresh before I posted:P

Figaro's, Pao's, S-Cargo's, Be-1's, and Rasheen's are all proper Nissans. The first four are Pike (not Takada Kogyo) cars, but Pike was just an in-house retro project/brand at Nissan. The Rasheen was built by Takada Kogyo alright - a different Nissan factory.

    I've got a Pao and an S-Cargo.
