My car has been abroad for 2 years, it never had its 1st due nct because of this. Now its back in Ireland if i get it nct'd now will the nct only be valid for 5 months, then it will have to be retested again in January on its 6 year anniversary?

Waiting times for NCT might be long enough.
If you book now, you might get an appointment for October, and then your car will get cert until January 2014 *.

    * (assuming the test will commence less than 90 days to anniversary date).

PS. Were you using a car abroad? Did no one ever asked you about proof that car is tested? What country were you in?

Ok, lads Im a bit confused? Shall i take it off the road until January then as its not really worth the effort getting an NCT done in the next few months and then again in Jan or there abouts?

I was in France & UK.

Depends on whether you have alternative transport or a spare car, surely you wouldn't lock up a five year old car for 5 months just to save €50?

well i walk to work and having a car is not a priority but if this car fails on something stupid now and costs hundreds to repair and then again it fails in a few months time and costs money, then yes its not a mad idea to take it off the road now.

I don't understand. You're worried that it will fail now, you'll pay a packet to get the problem fixed, then it will fail again in January (presumably you mean for a different reason) and you'll have to pay more money.

Isn't it more likely that if there are two faults that they will find both of them in a test in August, you'll get them fixed and the car will sail through in January?

I can't see how there's any extra risk in getting a test done now and another in January, unless you subscribe to the conspiracy theory which says that the purpose of the NCT is to generate business for the motor trade.

As CiniO said above, you will only need to keep the car off the road until October. You can do the NCT 90 days before the due date and get a full 2 years and 3 months. As suggested, check out waiting times and book it now.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
