Ive had no luck selling my unused wedding dress. Should i just give it to charity, and will all charities accept it?
Ive moved house, and i havnt really got room for it in the new place.

Really helpful reply, lets hope everyone on this forum is like you.
I would like someone to get some use out of it.

Maybe try selling it on Adverts.ie? They have a wedding dress section, you might get a couple of hundred back.

If you've already tried that Oxfam or Barnados bridal would take it!

You could try selling it on adverts or ebay?

Or you could donate it to the Oxfam wedding shop, which I think is on George's Street somewhere.

Ive tried selling it on Adverts.ie , donedeal and gumtree, but no interest.
Was a bit reluctant to go on ebay, as it would probably cost loads to package it.
I had a look at Barnadoes. It looks like they only accept dresses from proper shops, so they probably wouldnt accept mine.

OOh thanks. Do they accept dresses from the public?

There's a shop in Clondalkin (I think - and again sorry I don't know the name and even if it's still there). It's run by an actress who used to play Ann Clarke in Fair City. I believe the way it works is they take in your wedding dress and if it sells you get a percentage of the sale price. I'm sure one of the other boardsies will have more info on this shop.

I've sold a lot of stuff on there. You just need to do a bit of homework about shipping costs and make sure you make it clear that the buyer pays ALL packaging and shipping costs as well as any VAT or customs fees if it's going to another country. If you want to be really safe make sure it's insured (they pay that too) and signed for.

Those vacuum bags do an amazing job of compressing the dress into something you can fit into a shockingly small package. And fold it inside out so if anything does damage the package (or the recipient is over excited:D) there is no damage done to anything important. That's how most of those dresses on eBay are shipped. It does take a bit of work on your part but a good listing will get you exposure on a huge international market.

When I first started eBay I did a search for the items I wanted to sell, found a few that were close and stole as much as I needed from their listings. Just copy & paste into a word processing program on your computer and play with it there until you're happy. And make sure you have good pictures of the dress on you. Buyers need to see what they're spending money - just think of how closely you examined it yourself.;) eBay also runs listing specials pretty often so you can get a break on those costs which really aren't much anyway. I'd also suggest a PayPal account so you can accept any kind of payment. I've used them for years and I've never had a problem that an email or phone call didn't sort out very quickly.

Regardless what you do, good luck. :) With the way the economy has been I'm sure there are women out there looking for a break on those outrageous dress prices! You just need to get pictures in front of the right women... easier said than done.

And BTW, what size is the dress? I just happen to be looking for a dress at the moment.

Don't mean to be nosey (OK I am) - Why/How would anyone possess an unused wedding dress?

Just two possibilities that come to my mind are 1. wedding was cancelled :(or 2. the bride got more than one wedding dress. You probably wouldn't believe how many women do that, especially if it's an informal wedding. I've been on numberous wedding related sites for the past few months and I've been amazed. Of course that's planted the possibility in my mind which has my fiance looking a lot like this  :(:o depending upon the price tags.

Does this place still exist? I live close enough, so it would be handy.

I'm not from Clondalkin so don't know if the shop still exists. Anyway the shop is called Encore, Laurel House, New Road, Clondalkin, D. 22 and the phone number is 457-7482 (I got this from a google search so hopefully the shop is still there).

I know this is going to sound stupid but years ago (20 or so) when my sister was getting married she used to frequent dry cleaners and look at the dry cleaned wedding dresses hanging up - and the shop owners were only too happy to ring the new bride and say there was interest in the dress (even though it wasn't for sale). Now most of the time the brides had no interest in selling the dress but had bridesmaid dresses if she was interested (thats how my sis got our bridesmaid dresses).

Might be an idea if you knew a dry cleaner who'd let you hang up your dress - well it did work pre-internet.

Closed, AFAIK. But that's assuming that it was called Encore Bridal (near the Laurels). If you Google it you'll get plenty of references, but the only recent ones suggest that it's closed.

    That's a shame isn't it. (I spent ages getting that info)...:D

Many normal charity shops have wedding dresses in the window from time to time. Of course they'd be more than happy to take it off you. Alternatively, just try all the bridal shops too.

Did you try posting it on the wedding websites like weddingsonline.ie and mrs2be.ie? Have a look at them, you might also find suggestions for other places you could give/sell your dress to.
