Hi we are selling a car and i have had three viewings

one of the ppl viewing said i should have the fuel system checked out as it seemed something was off with the power and few other reasons

so anyway i had it looked at and there was an issue with the fuel injector pump.. anyway €1200 later the car has been given the full health check from the garage after they changed the part and few little bits (main dealer garage..if that matters)

I could have done without spending the €1200 but it needed to be done. My issue now is I intend to fully disclose to any viewer of the car the work that was done ect... because the part has a 12 month warenty

anyway ive gone on... my questions are what site is best to sell from
also will the change of part go againist me???

    any feed back welcome

What car is it and how much do you wish to sell it for ?

The prefared car advert site around here is www.Donedeal.ie as opposed to the more expensive Carzone or Car Buyers Guide. :)

Unlikely, especially if it was done by a main dealer who as you say did a few other bits and bobs, that should reassure any potential buyer so rather than worry about scaring off potential buyers, I'd highlight it.

Say you were about to sell a house but were worried about the wiring so you got the house rewired - would you mention this when selling the house? Of course you would, it's an enhancement and it reassures potential buyers than you've taken care of the product you're selling.

Edit: I see that it's a 2006 model so it's five years old, it's no big deal that a part has failed, it happens. Better that you have receipts from a main dealer to show that you got the items replaced than have no paperwork at all.

    Thanks for the input

    I found the viewings stressful

I find that the buyers feel that anyone selling a car is doing so for a shady reason...

anyway ill plug on hope there is a buyer out there that will accept that im not trying to pull a fast one... and now i feel i can stand over the car 100%

also any advice if I find a buyer what would the best way to hand over the car?? bank draft? cash? what needs to be done with the log book

sorry for silly questions i have only ever traded in a garage before

On the logbook, as you are selling privately you need to send the logbook to Shannon with the details of the new owner entered as shown on the form, do not under any circumstances hand the logbook to the new owner. If you do they will probably delay registering it in their own name and in the meantime you will will get all their parking/M50 toll/speeding tickets.

On payment, the best way to get paid is to go to a bank, building society or credit union with the buyer, the buyer asks for a draft in your name and the clerk hands the draft across the counter to you.

If the buyer says he will pay in cash, do not meet in a lonely spot like a layby, meet in a public place like a car park and bring a friend.

There are a lot of part time dealers out there masquerading as private sellers and they're trying to offload heaps of sh1t so buyers are naturally cautious.

When a buyer calls you, tell them immediately why you are selling the car, explain that the car has been well maintained and tell them about the fuel injector pump and that you have main dealer receipts. From your earlier post you're worried that the potential buyer will be scared off because something in the car failed, you should have no worries on that score. When you tell a potential buyer that a part failed and you got it replaced by a main dealer, the buyer doesn't give a XXXX that the part failed, what will register with them is that you went to a main dealer and paid for a new part and got a few other bits fixed. Provided you have the paperwork to back it up, that's a seriously good selling point.

Anyone buying secondhand just loves to hear that the car has recently been in a main dealer.
