I-pod sound is muffled

My I-pod is after developing a muffled sound when I listen to it. It can only be described as if I was finding a radio station but was not at the correct frequency as it is not clear and there is that background sound as well. It is only a couple of days out of warranty. Is there any point in sending it to Apple? Is there anywhere in Ireland that fix them if I can't send it to Apple?

Have you checked that it is the ipod itself and not just the earphones?

Well I bought new headphones and it wasn't any better. The volume seems to be broken on it too.

i'd say there is definitely fluff in the jack if the volume control wont work, just blow it out
