if i cant work hours on roster can i be let go

    hi my friend works in food services part time and recently separated from partner with whom has a child, and now cant work more than 2 days(was doing 3 and 4 days) as has no child care after 6pm. can they just dismiss her, shes there 4 months.
    any help welcome,

    They could potentially let her go with no issues as she is not there long enough for Unfair Dismissals legislation to apply to her. She should approach the employer and explain the situation to see if they will accommodate her. If not she could be dismissed if she can't work the required hours with no recourse.

    If she's part time she should talk to the boss, I'd she's good, having her just 2 days a week would be better than not having her at all. Good staff are hard to find, her boss will be well aware of that and should accommodate her if everything else is going well.

    Personally I'd be looking for 2 days a week somewhere else and then resign, getting dismissed is not the best way to leave a job.
