Looking for some opinions on this car, i'm looking to change my car in the next few weeks and this one ticks every box except for the fact that the mileage is on the high side, what do you think? Would you expect to see major repairs falling due on this car in the next few years, if it was well looked after the mileage isn't such an issue but it's hard to tell, would I be better off looking elsewhere, I plan to go see this car over the weekend, what questions should I ask? I have my eye on a few others also, would I be better off ponying up for something with lower mileage? 10k is my upper limit unless I spot a great deal somewhere on a newer car.

They're trying to flog it without a warranty, make your own conclusions regarding the likelyhood of it needing work over the next few years. I would reckon its quite likely.

God thats high mileage for a 3 year old car. That car has been well and truly drove... Id keep my money for a better deal. If you done 50k miles your up at 200k mark. Will it last that long without mechanical breakdowns to the engine and drive system. That be too much of a lemon for me

Is 5 speed a selling point down in kerry? It's mentioned twice.

    Ex Cop car possibly?

Offer 5K, expect to get 2-3 years out of it at normal (10K per year) usage before the big bills arrive.

    You'll be married to it.

If cars are looked after they will do horrific miles. I have a 99 406 est diesel wit 356k miles... So long as oil is changed and any worn suspension parts changed in time..

Unlimited mileage on cop cars now as far as I know i.e they keep them till their no longer drive-able.

These days they do anyway. I remember them being updated every year or two during the good times.

If that car is well maintained and has a good service history then I don't see how it would be a bad buy. As I say regularly on here, I'd rather buy a well maintained high mileage car than one with average miles that's been skimped on.

I know I read an article about the Guards replacing cars in Cork because they had over 300k on them and the manufacturer could no longer guarantee their safety. Not sure if that has changed recently though...

Doesn't mention anything about service history. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, modern diesels very expensive to run if not well serviced and cared for.

Agreed, have had a think and I will steer clear of the car as it is too risky. There are a number of similar cars available locally with far lower mileage which makes more sense. If it had a service history i'm sure they would have mentioned it and also selling without warranty rings the alarm bells immediately.

My local dealer had one in recently. It was getting a new steering rack and a full suspension rebuild, I think it had about 200k on the clock.

The 1.8TD in that mondeo will last forever once it is serviced. The price would want to be right though. That one has probably only 100bhp, which isn't enough to haul a car the size of the mondeo.

Prob ex-fleet which would have been serviced and had work done on time, worth a punt with a FSH, only 1 owner also which is a bonus.

Don't see the issue with this one once it checks out, maybe get it checked by the AA before you buy.

OP, it might be worth sending a pm to ROR with the reg number. He is a Fleet Manager for a large leasing company afaik and that car could have been one of his at some stage. If it is then more than likely he will have access to the car's service history. Worth a shot before totally discounting it.

well, you can nearly guarantee it hasnt been clocked which is in its and the Dealers favour. Lokks fairly clean for the mileage.

To be fair, if that car was fleet and being booted up and down the "moho way" to Dublin and back and well looked after, she could well be fine.

No mention of a FSH, have you asked for one ?

Sorry to Hijack the thread OP but seeing as it's a Mondeo and I'm looking at one at present i'd like people's opinions on this car
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Ford/Mondeo/2.0-TDCI/201122202631517/advert?channel=CARS

Anything i should be looking out for?
    Thanks people:)

I'll start a new thread if need be

For a start i don't think the TDCI comes in 90bhp format, 90bhp was the older style TDDi which was not a common rail engine. Im not even sure that engine was offered as late as 2006, i have a feeling they stopped it much sooner than this, however someone else maybe able to confirm.

    I had a 90bhp TDdi reg 2005

They are removed from the fleet on reaching 300kms.

I guess they would need to be 100% reliable esp if transporting high risk prisoners, at 300k they would also be the older fleet which were all petrol, I'd expect the newer fleet of cop cars to be all Diesel which should last longer.

That car is way overpriced. I bought a 07 Passat 18 months ago with 260k KMS for 6K. 5k would be enough for it imo allthough you would not think it had that mileage done in fairness..

dont forget folks, with a fleet car, that Benefit-in-Kind is payable on the annual mileage. -so its beneficial to the driver to have high mileage, along with every second fill into the wifes car, works out very nicely for the driver.
;)doesn't mean the car has really done the miles..;)

Highly highly highly unlikely. 40k kms a year and BIK on a Mondeo is less than a tank of diesel a month to someone. Microscopic (none really) chance on a fleet car whatever chance on one actually owned by the company.

Personally, I'd not bother with this example. If you want a well priced 08 current model diesel mondeo with reasonable milage and a good history, import one.
