    Hino 700 lost drive today...

When I went out to look at it the longer(front driveshaft) turns when the truck is parked. I whipped it off and now I can turn the flange on the front of the diff but when I tow the truck on the road the flange still spins???

I havent time to check the half shafts but I think its the front nose of the diff thats gone. Can these be fixed or is it a pino harris replacement job???

It was a common problem on the older ones. Think they are basically the same axles.

If it won't move even with the diff locks in it is more than likely the splines worn on the driveshaft flange. Take off the shaft and I think its a 55mm nut and whip the flange off.

If it does drive when the diff lock is in you need to start checking your half shafts though it is very rare to break one of these on a Hino

It wont drive with the Diff on either. I will rip it tomorrow and find out the bad news. Do you know anyone with the front piece for sale???

Well you know Hino parts were never that cheap...

Think it was between 100 and 200 though I could be wrong. At the time I thought it was quite reasonable! Then again I was not paying for it!

If it was that cheap I would be delighted but I have got quotes between 2K and 13K....

Was it the teeth of the flange like I thought or in the pinion shaft that fcuked up?

It was the teeth allright Slidey. They were worn down to nothing. Carrier bearing will have to be done soon I just attached the drive shaft now and there seems to be a bit of play in it. Spilt a load of 80w/90 on the clothes as well...

Very rare for a carrier bearing to go on a Hino.

If you have a mrs do NOT let her catch you putting them into the washing machine! Give them a dart of the powerhose first. That is the voice of experience talking!
