My brother was let go from his job exactly four weeks ago.

He had his appointment yesterday with the social welfare and was told payment would be in early next week.

Will he paid from when he was let go or just receive a standard weekly payment?

Did he open a claim immediately after being let go from his job? If so he should have gone to a cwo who would have been paying him a weekly allowance until was processed. They will back pay from the day he opened his claim...whenever that was!

If he informed them immediately when he lost his job he should get paid from that day on. Having said that , I was let go and went into them and was told to come back 3 days later to fill out forms etc... As a result I got paid from the day I filled out the forms instead of the day I informed them I was unemployed. Which is total BS. I complained and got dated back to when i informed them first.

    Hope that helps

He made an appointment straight away! But and heres where it gets tricky, an employer offered him an trial which only lasted a day, he cancelled his appointment thinking he had work.

Due to distance and time the job did not materialise.
The social welfare had no problem with this but did not say what he would be paid.
He did make it clear he has had no income since being let go so hopefully he gets back dated.

    Waiting Days
You are not entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance for the first 3 days of a claim. These 3 days are called waiting days.
