Annoying 3GS problem

My girlfriends 3GS has been acting up recently, every now now and then it turns itself off and cannot be turned back on until it's plugged into the charger. It may happen once a week or a few times in a day. Battery has charge when this happens. When she turns it back on the date is back to 1/1/1970!

She had the screen replaced a little while ago and it's on IOS 4.3 (dunno if either of these matter but just incase!) If you shake it, it sounds like there's something moving round inside but it's only moving slightly. Tis very hard to explain!

Anyone else have this problem? And if so, how can I fix it?

I'd open the 2 screws on the bottom and pull the screen up from the bottom with a suction cup lightly(just enough to let whatevers in their fall out) sounds like a screw TBH.
Regarding the date, is the phone on the ipad baseband(06.15.00)?
