Where to buy replacment toshiba satellite l555d-s7930 screen for laptop, I went to two PC repair shops today and they said price for screen would be 150E and 200E,

does anyone know of a place that you can buy 2nd hand screens for this or do you have any suggestions,

Would it be worth buying from ebay( 70E) and replacing it yourself ,

I'd be doing it myself. Have done it before without any problems. It's straight forward, and there are plenty of guides online. No way would i pay 150+ to do this job.

A good place to go is iFixit.com for your DIYs.

I replaced a screen on a Sony Vaio last year and it was a bit of an nightmare due to the way the laptop was designed(search google images for sony VGN look for ones with big green round switches!). If the bottom screws aren't that hard to get at then it isn't a difficult task. Just take a note of which screws come from where.

Well it takes around 3 hours to take apart a laptop put in the screen, close it up, test it.
Thats if you know what your doing and take your time.
Its between €50-€70 for a replacement screen.
So your looking at between €100-€80 for labour.
Oh wait! you havent paid the electricity, rent, rates, internet or any other bills that are involved in running a computer repair shop.
I would think €150 for the job is quite reasonable.

Especially when you cant even get a electrician to look at a circuit box for anything less then €50!

€50 - €70 is quite reasonable for a laptop screen as they are usually more expensive than that, so I have to agree with above poster on the cost. obviously repairing it yourself would be cheap but I have repaired a fare few laptop monitors myself and some laptop machines can be a pain as you cannot remove the two bottom screws of the monitor as they are blocked by the base of the laptop casing so in this case you have to disassemble the whole bloody laptop just to be able to get to the screws. €50 to €70 euro labour would be the lowest I would charge to do this.

Some laptops are grand to work on, such as the Dell Inspiron 6000/6400/1501, but others such as the Acer Aspire 8930 are absolutely horrible. It depends on how the bezel is fitted to the lid. For the 8930 you have to remove the lid which involves first removing the keyboard and palm rest. So you're almost stripping down the whole laptop.

The DV6000 is terrible too. Had to just about remove everything from the soundbar to the graphics card/whatever the half of that bisected part of the motherboard was, just to get to the CPU fan to get dust out of it. And two whole ounces of dust later after 3.5 years, I was vindicated for my 3 hour effort.

Seriously more laptops need to have an access panel for the fan for dusting purposes :(

I have around 10 of them sitting in my wardrobe. If you buy more them €500 euro worth they give you free shipping. Takes about 10 days to get here.
Even if you get stuck for import tax (which i never have) there still only around €65 euro each. You should look into it and maybe stop attacking peoples "knowledge". Especially when its got nothing to do with the topic.

Also I totally agree with Karsini some laptops can be an awful pain even if you know what your doing. But like they said some are relatively straight forward!

    LOL fair play to you!

Those screens you quoted are Grade A aka reconditioned, used or have slight imperfections and only come with a one year warranty, my original point was that if you can get brand spanking new screens for the prices quoted earlier in the thread, then I would love to know where they can be got?

You can pick up the screen OP is after for €80 shipped on eBay

    Ha..

    1) I never said they were new in the first place. "replacement"
    2) The OP said he wanted to get a second hand one as new was too expensive.
    3) What the guy above me said.

It takes about 10-20 minutes to change a screen, depending on your level of experience, you can pick up a screen anywhere between €50 and €100 depending on where you go, but the quote you got is ridiculous.

A screen repair can cost more for the more popular screens, (Go figure)

A 17.3" Toshiba screen can be repaired for €120

    Did you get it?
