Do you trust people?

Was reading the "Experiences that taught you valuable lessons" thread - and I was in the middle of replying, going back over experience in life when I thought about something. Hence this thread.

And thats trust. Do you trust people?
Now family or very very close friends can be a given. But what about everyone else? So called friendships, even relationships can be facades. That when it comes down to it ... the true person comes out. Especially when theres something to "gain" - Only can throw out examples of the top of my head really ...

    like:
    • you could be mates with someone for ages who would glady toss you aside for a bit of p**sy, etc.
    • Be dating someone who, truth be known, isnt into you that much. You being better than nothing.
    • To take someone on their word. That they will live up to that. But in reality have no intention.
    • etc etc etc

So boards.ie, do you trust your average person? do you put faith in them / a certain level of trust? ... or are you wisly keeping your ears and eyes open all the time?

    I trust eleven people.

The X-Files said 'Trust No One' but I think that's going too far. 11 is good for me.

People are not trust worthy. It's a 2 way street. Just because you can trust your family, doesn't mean a stranger can trust your family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭pragmatic1

Very few people. Maybe four friends and family.

I do have faith in people but I also realise we're all just human.

Nobody. Not even myself. I don't place too much faith in humanity as a whole.

Never trust a horse. They promise you the world, but in the end they just let you down. Birthdays, anniversaries, special events, they get married and move away:mad:

    Of course I trust people.

It's just I only trust a select few.

If you trusted everyone, that would make you a fool.

Over the years I've learned that no matter how close a friend he/she is, he/she will ALWAYS tell EVERYTHING to their boyfriend/girlfriend. FACT.

With that I think the only people in the world I really trust is my parents and siblings, but even my brothers/sisters I know share everything with their partners. So that just leaves my parents really!

I have a really good friend that I'd trust with my life (seriously) and I also trust his judgement of what he tells his missus.

I am quite trusting although recently, in my work I have been stung so many times. Its hard to trust people when it comes to $$$ these days. I have gone to their houses did the work they wanted, 100%. They were happy but when It comes to money time some people have been quite bad. So my trust levels are slipping!

I tend to trust people to a certain extent, I reckon I have decent enough judgement at this stage to spot a codger.

Not really but generally go by giving the benefit of doubt. But I'm lucky to have a few that I can say I trust.

I trussed people. Then I put them into the back of my van and drove waaay out into the mountains. Then the games began.

I trust anyone I meet will treat me with the respect I deserve. If they don't treat me with basic respect, I don't trust them.

Most people are decent I find.

i trust people just about as much as a parent would trust their kid going to confession, ya feel me?

I trust most people but I don't trust everyone who crosses my path. It can take me a while to fully trust people I just met or know a short time. If I get a bad vibe off them or first impressions don't cut it then I won't trust them. If they pass that test then I would trust them but not instantly I trust them but would still take me a while to trust them. I find it hard to trust some people and If I am doubtful/unsure of them and If I don't trust them, I just don't want to bother with them. There are friends and family I trust close to 100% but there some of my friends and family I wouldn't trust them with certain things or even trust them whole-heartly if they hurt or offended me in someway or have a difference of opinion on something we don't agree on. Sometimes if there is a personality clash I won't always get on with someone and therefore don't trust them.

On occasion I wouldn't trust myself but I know I am the only person I can trust at least 99%!

Fool me once shame on them, fool me twice shame on me fool me again not to be trusted! When in doubt leave it out!? If you were in my past and not in my future it says a lot about them! Very few from my past are part of my present and future! I might seem insecure maybe and have trust issues but I have been burnt to a tee and walked all over by people and that can make me very wary of them. What do they want from me. Its a case of give and take and if you respect me I respect you. What goes around comes around and if you cross me then they will know about it and I just distance myself from them, chances are they will do that too. Ignorance isn't nice but in cases like this and trust is gone, ignorance is bliss!

There's only 1 or 2 people I fully trust. I tend not to trust the rest, even my family members or closer friends. People hurt and disappointed me so many times hence I find myself very suspicious and I can hardly build trust with others.

I don't trust a soul. By the time I'm 40 I'll be so bitter I'll be a lemon with legs.

Only a certain few,as has been said Trust has to be earned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,261 ✭✭✭Sonics2k

I think only two people I can say I trust completely.

My mother, and my best friend.

I've always felt it takes a lot to truly earn my trust and to earn theirs.

A couple of people, would come from the school of thought that trust is earned and not just given automatically. But also they are signs aplenty along the way aswell which you can either accept or try to ignore when deciding whether to trust someone or not, its how you interpret these signs that determine who likely you are to trust in my opinion

Well you would have to trust people to a certain extend if you didn't you wouldn't leave your door in case you might get attacked and you wouldn't drive your car because you wouldn't trust other drivers on the road or you wouldn't get a bus or train because you wouldn't trust the driver to get you anywhere safely.

I've learned not to trust people, I used to trust people until they gave me a reason not to, now its the opposite
