That is great news for me. I am heading to west Cork in the morning and just found out that my 4-man tent is damaged (that set cost me €200+). Was that in Liffey Valley by any chance?

This was in B&Q in Swords, but as far as I am aware its a nationwide offer.

the hydrostatic head of that tent is only 2000, which means if the weather does anything more than spit light rain for a little while, you're pretty much going to get wet. :)

would be fine as a summer tent for the kids though, but i'm very much of the opinion that you very much get what you pay for with tents (as with a lot of things) and if you intend to use it more than couple of times, you'll want to invest in a decent one.

also 4 man tent usually equals 4 midgets or kids. :)

Total exagerration at 2000mm hydrostatic head you're unlikely to get wet with normal irish weather. Leaks if any are almost always around seams, zips and windows.

Cheap tents do however often have poorly taped seams.

I thinks its safe to say that a two bedroom tent with a pitch area of 6.9m x 4.7m - 350 square feet - is big enough inside for 4 adults.

Reviews of that tent here if anyone is interested.

if it's the one I'm thinking of, it is. Put up the outter skin first and then clip the two sleeping compartments on to the inside on either end. Mates have something very similar and will defo sleep 4 adults. Has never let them down weather wise either and it has been through a wet glasto, oxegen and picnic. They paid a lot more than what is quoted above too.

None of these in liffey valley. Only had two men vents with sleeping bags and mats for 59.

Edit got the price wrong it only 20 for the two man tent

I bought a near identical kit a year ago for 99 from Halfords, is a good deal. Tent fits 2 dbl airbeds no problem. Is good enough summer kit.

Only downside is the central section between the 2 sleeping compartments can get wet as there is no seal between the tent doors and the floor on this part. For this reason in a strong wind the centre storage section can be useless as rain can get blown in.

For your average family fair weather tent it is fine though & the airbeds would nearly cost you that anyway.

I pitched this in the Garden last night before a biblical deluge came down, happy to report it remained bone dry.

Just looking at the link in the additional information it does say :-

"Airbeds and sleeping bags not included"

Note sure if this has been updated since the OP.

All sold out in the Dublin area anyway.

He was linking the same tent elsewhere, I would think he didn't have a link to it on the b&q site...

My kids would love that... straight out of bed and onto the trampoline; they could even bounce off trampoline and back into bed; perfect day!

well that might be your experience, but it's certainly not mine.

i have a 4 man Galert with a 3000mm hydrostatic head and you wouldn't get 4 teens in it comfortably (2 people and a weekends worth of gear at most) and if you did and it rained, they'd all be wet in the morning because the one time we used it and it rained, we (and our stuff) got wet. not drenched, but water was dripping through in places and it wasn't even raining more than a spit for a couple of hours during the night.

possibly if it was one big sleeping area, but you're not subtracting from that figure the big section in the middle which is no good for sleeping in.

i've seen a similar tent pitched in halfords with those double blow up beds inflated in them and they were pressed right up against the outside layer all the way round the sleeping areas stretching the seams, which you really don't want to do in any tent, particularly if it rains.

Can someone confirm the box includes 4 x sleeping bags & 3 inflatable mattresses? I don't want to open the box today but it looks a bit small to holds all that gear!

It does contain all of that and a pump.

possibly, but from what i understand, galert is supposed to be a good quality brand and (and this is a genuine question) if that's the case then why have i seen several tents advertised with 4000 & 5000mm HSH?

    actually, wikipedia knows. :)
Rain resistance is measured as a hydrostatic head in millimetres (mm). This indicates the pressure of water needed to penetrate a fabric. Heavy or wind-driven rain has a higher pressure than light rain. Standing on a groundsheet increases the pressure on any water underneath. Fabric with a hydrostatic head rating of 1000 mm or less is best regarded as shower resistant, with 1500 mm being usually suitable for summer camping. Tents for year-round use generally have at least 2000 mm; expedition tents intended for extreme conditions are often rated at 3000 mm. Where quoted, groundsheets may be rated for 5000 mm or more.
so it looks like i either have a faulty tent, or it rained more than i thought it did. or i was on an expedition (in wicklow). :)

and maybe i'm just remembering groundsheet HSH's, not for the tents themselves. ho hum, you live and you learn.

According to the spec that tent is only 4.4 x 2.2m.

I picked up the 2 man with 2 sleeping bags & mats for 20 euro.

edit: just read Hydrostatic Head 1200mm I take it no good during the rain or will it do for fair-ish weather camping

It'll do for fair weather camping, but we rarely get fair weather here. Got a few of the pop up tents, not sure of exact HSH but ~1500, and they let water in after it rained all day last month, luckily we'd already decided not to use them again that night.

Bought one of these sets in Athlone on Friday, spent a lovely but pretty wet weekend in Doolin and the tent held up just fine.Plenty of room for us and two biggish kids, great value for money

Thanks for this OP. You saved me €60 from going for the same thing in Halfords + this tent has a higher hydrostatic rating.

Just to confirm... The package does have the matresses and sleeping bags included despite the web site description.
