car is dur for test in couple days and have just noticed one of the cv boots has a very little amount of greese just seeping out around it, i tightened the metal clip that comes with the boots as much i could, its nothing major just i you run your finger around it you would see it, would this be ok for test or should i replace boot altogether with new clip? and would jubilee clips be a better option here? cheers

A cable tie should be fine out, should be easier to tighten then them metal clips

Often a new clip will sort it, but sometimes the boot may actually have a small tear where the clip is so you'd need to remove the clip, clean it up and check that the boot is ok.

Cable tie will not pass the test please don't do things half measures please also don't put a jubliee clip on it it can get cought in things.as stated check for a tear if no tear found replace clip

Why would a cable tie not pass the test?

The only reason you can fail cv boots in a test is if they are split/worn or leaking grease.

Thats what I though as well Slidey, I've often came by cars that went through tests with cable ties around the boots. Pass

Cable ties will pass once they are tight and secure.

    cheers for the feedback lads!

right so today i will break of the metal clip completely and check if boot has a small rip or crack at the edge, if not might try pack bit more greese in there would that be wise? then fasten again with a cable tie...if not replace boot?

another quick question, i got got the car underbody washed during week for the test which is on monday, just looked under it and its just as back as it was, i live in the sticks so driving over all types of ****e! does the underbody need to be really that clean or am i just better to get it washed again?

Try some stainless steel cable ties.
