I have gotten a lot of calls lately about eerie ghoslty looking hedges throughout the countryside. Long stretches of hedges have been stripped of foliage and covered in silk webbing.

    The answer: Ermine moth.

The larvae of this moth start feeding in the early summer and can strip lengths of hedge rapidly. Depending on the exact moth they will attack spindle bushes or hawthorn hedges.
The hedges will come back the next year so shouldn't be any need for any drastic action.

    Thought it might be useful.
