    That is good value!

Although that Jedward photo is off-putting.

It shows who 3 are aiming this offer at.
I wish these offers were around back when i was in school. It was such a balls having to wait for WAP to connect and then spending the bones of an hour trying to find cinema times.

I despise the two of them.. but any network that offers all you can eat data for under €20 is fine by me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭groom

What is the data speed like on 3?
I'm on Tesco and their Data bundle is very generous and cheap but wouldn't be the fastest. I just checked and got 0.61 down/0.37 up. In theory I think it can be up to 1Mb down

Very good deal! Going to signup now.

    Offer just starts tomorrow methinks.

Pretty sure I'll sign up too although:

    a) need to check my house for Three coverage.. have a sim in a MiFi that'll do that.
    b) need to unlock my iPhone
    c) have €27 in my PAYG account on O2 so gonna have to wait til that's gone.

Decent offer. Just bear in mind that "All you can eat data" means less than 15GB a month.

I use 3 I find them very good on data. I suppose coverage varies but I find the Planet 3 stuff very good.

They charge €5 for a 500mb bundle so 15GB is loads!

It does not mean less than 15GB a month, if you exceed 15GB in a 30 day period they reserve the right to limit your service under fair usage policy if it is affecting other customers. I have all you can eat on bill pay and used 40GB last month with no slow down in speed and no limitation.

To be fair 15gigs is a massive figure for phone usage, I doubt many users come anywhere close to it.

Have you had to call meteor lately, there customer care has turned into a complete joke, there's nobody in charge. There's 4 active threads in consumer issues at the moment in relation to meteor and their lack of customer care.
You can say what you want about the indian's but there a hell of a lot better than vodafone and meteor as far as I can see.

These offers always have an expiry date, until they become mainstream. I remember when Vodafone first offered Free Calls and Free Texts with a €20 topup, they too had an expiry date. Don't think there is any mention of one now.

    CAUTION UNLOCKED IPHONE USERS
I had an iPhone on O2, got it unlocked at the end of my contract and moved to 3 for a similar deal for about a week!!!!
Major problems with the three network so cancelled ASAP

Basically there was a problem whereby if my phone dropped from a 3G network, to 2G say, then it wouldn't pick up the 3G network unless I switched the phone off or into airplane mode and back on.
So, walking down the street with full 3G coverage, step into a shop and 3G drops off, go back onto the same street location, no 3G
Walk down the road, no 3G. Get in the car, drive 5 miles, no 3G.
Switch phone off or into airplane mode, 5 bars of 3G

Its not a coverage problem, I used to get 3G most anywhere if I'd just switched on the phone.

It's a known issue - little known but known all the same. If you go into a black spot and your iPhone drops data completely, then it'll stay there.
    Massively frustrating.
Three won't help because its not a three handset, no matter how much I argued that it was a network issue not a phone issue.

There's at least one or two posters on here who managed to get it sorted by three, but not the majority who are stuck with the network dropping issue.
Buddy of mine has/had the exact same problem.

Its only all you can eat if you can get hold of the data
    Be warned.

Is the free €10 once off, or applied Monthly? Their wording on their Website implies the €10 is once off.

You get 10 euro per month if you top up by 20 euro per month at present, this will remain... I'm not sure if it will for new customers though, something to check with the three team I think.

In theory, if no credit is spent on calls and texts, could I:

    - Top up by €20.
    - Get unlimited data for first month.
    - buy the €5 'internet browsing' add-on at the start of every month, for the following 4 months.

    - all from that original €20 top up?

3's speeds seem to take a nosedive when they announced AYCED on bill pay, I can see it getting even worse now. I don't get anywhere near 1Mb speeds anywhere now, apart from once in Donegal.

One to watch for: the 'free' €10 credit is not quite free. Restrictions as follows:

    No texts outside of Ireland.

    No MMS messages.

    No calls outside of Ireland.

Certainly not "free" by any definition of the word. And - oh - you have to use your top-up credit before you get to the "free" credit...which is usually applied with around two days to the next top-up!

I know this probably isn't the place to debate this but I couldn't agree more.

Having switched from Vodafone to Three (purely coz they had good data bundles on PAYG), I'm now switching back.

It's all well and good having data bundles but if you can't get 3G or you can't get a proper EDGE connection... you can't really avail of the data.

And they really have a thing or two to learn about customer service.

Just for balance I am a three iPhone billpay customer. My last few speed tests at completely random times in cork city center and suburbs are :

    2.64mb
    1.64
    2.74
    3.7
    1.15
    .26
    .13
    1.77
    1.32

I think 3 are excellent, they're deals are really good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

I'm in north Wicklow and am already with three. I just did a speed test there and got 4.26mbps download speed and 1.59 upload.

Nothing wrong with that! I think its just some areas of the country that the coverage isn't the best.

I ordered my free sim yesterday and bought that Samsung Europa phone to go with it.

    Great deal in fairness.

Some areas are great for coverage and 3G. The problem is, the areas that are bad are REALLY bad.

I get great 3G coverage in Leixlip but absolutely dismal coverage in Newbridge. As in, line dropping or just permanently stuck on Edge or GPRS.

One thing I will say, their bundles and stuff for PAYG are streets ahead of the other providers and they're definitely the cheapest in my eyes.

I just can't understand why they're so bad for data and why they're so unwilling to help.

I was talking to a Guy in Three Henry St at lunchtime about using this plan on a three phone (Samsung Europa) as a WIFI Hotspot.

He said that this is *NOT* permitted under this plan. The 15GB can only be consumed by the phone itself and not by any other device such as a laptop which uses the phone to connect to the internet.

I don't know how they do this but they can determine if the traffic is being used by the phone or not. If it is being used by a secondary device then it charges usage to a broadband add-on if you have one (e.g. 500mb for €4.99) or presumably whatever the flat rate for their internet traffic is if you don't.

He said the reason for this is that three don't want people using the new plan just for cheapo internet access for other (non three phone) devices.

Anyone see this in the small print ?

The only phone that can detect tethering is an iPhone without jailbreak... I think you should be fine, unless three have written something into the software in the phone, which is highly doubtful, but not uncommon in America :)

Yep, they state in their T&Cs that tethering isn't allowed which is a shame but understandable that this offer has to have limits.

Just read in the T&Cs that tethering the three handset for use as a modem or using the sim in conjunction with a modem is not allowed and may be disabled. How can they do this and still allow people to use a broadband add-on with the same device ?

You mean the 500MB Add-On? As far as I know, this does allow tethering but you're paying €5 for that privilege and 500MB isn't much data. I assume if you purchase this Add-On, it will be used before the All You Can Eat (15GB) data. But it's a question for the Three team.

I doubt there is anyway they could know where the Internet traffic is coming from.

If i had a smartphone I'd be on this plan :D

Nope, it's free. No need to go any further.
Are you saying that you can't use the €10 free credit to ring internationally/send mms/Intl texts? Or that MMS, international calls and texts don't come out of the package allowance?
