I feel sorry for the rat, it must have been a very frightening ordeal for the little creature. :p

UPDATE:2.12pm A BREAD company's investigations into a live rodent found in a bag of bread in Townsville on Sunday have found it was in fact a mouse that had chewed a small hole in the bag.
Authorities have been investigating how the rodent was allegedly able to find its way into a loaf of bread at a Townsville supermarket before being sold to an unsuspecting customer.
The gruesome find was made by a shopper who bought a loaf of Helga's Bread from Coles at Centro in Aitkenvale on Sunday.
But a spokesman for Goodman Fielder, which own Helga's Bread, said an investigation had shown it was a mouse, not a rat, that had chewed a small hole in the bag of bread.
He said the Department of Health had inspected the company's Townsville bakery and determined that they ``did not think'' the rodent got into the bag on the premises.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she was unloading her shopping into a car with a friend when she noticed the slices had holes in them.
They then noticed a tail among the bread before her friend realised there was, what appeared to be, a rat scurrying around inside the packet.
"I was horrified ... I didn't even want to hold the bag I was that shocked," she said.
"Imagine a rat in a loaf of bread you eat every day of your life.
"It has turned me off Helga's Bread at the moment, it's traumatising."
The woman said she took the loaf back to Coles management who were reluctant to take responsibility.
"They said because it was 'outside' bread they were not responsible for it which I thought was very ordinary," she said.
"It came from their shop but they are saying it was in the bread before it was delivered to the shop."
A Coles corporate spokesman yesterday told the Bulletin the incident was "obviously concerning" but was isolated and the company would investigate.
He said while it was too early to be certain, the rodent most likely found its way into the bag during transportation.
Townsville City Council Environmental Health executive manager Gavin Hammond yesterday confirmed the council had received a complaint but could not find anyone responsible.
"While it's virtually impossible to ascertain where the rodent came from, the council takes public health very seriously and has carried out an inspection of the supermarket and the bakery," he said.
"We are satisfied that they have complied with all health requirements."
Council's Community Health Chairman Cr Dale Last said the incident was a warning to businesses to ensure they prepared and sold food hygienically.
"I think most people would be mortified to find a rat in their loaf of bread," he said.
"Certainly there's an expectation from the community that food that is commercially prepared in an environment that meets strict guidelines."
Council has issued 12 fines in past year for various Food Act breaches.

Well, it obviously ate its way in after the loaf was baked. It isn't rocket science :p

If the people in the bakery paid more attention instead of just loafing around.

It'd be worse if the rat was dead. In any event, I believe rats are quite nutritious and can be roasted just like chicken. Best not to stuff them though.:)
