ok i'm a fool for punishment. I have being doing the same lotto numbers for 15 years now and the most I ever won was €46 also I have won about forty €3 scratchcards in this time maybe more and only once won €4 on them.

as far as I know it is a one in five win on the €3 scratchcards so how the hell have I only won once out of over 30 3 euro cards. does anyone else here do these €3 scratchcards and how do you fare ?.

also the whole point of doing the lotto is to win money as you are paying money to win money not a scratchcard. the lotto heads should remove this scratchcard scam immediately imo. what are your thoughts on this illegal scratchcard scam ?. one in five wins my arse and I have just proven it. :pac::pac::pac:

odds of getting no winner in 30 is 800/1, not sure the odds for 1 in 30, unlikely, but not impossible.

newsagents only give winning tickets to old ladies, because they know they'll just spend it on more scatchcards.

this is probably insufferable and im sure no one will share their winnings with me if they do win but I firmly believe the Lotto really is just the stupid people tax

yeah probably ..if they are doing it you can be sure its not for your benefit

    No..no you havent

the probability may be one in five but that does not mean you might not just have had a run of bad luck....your back to back losses may have been balanced by someone elses back to back wins

btw...where does it say you have a one in five chance of a cash win...genuine question, never bought the things , never looked at them....going to have egg on my face if the name of the scratch card is one in five:D

yep it says 1 in 5 wins lol. I know it's a mugs game but its my only way out.

anyway the lotto should not have scratchcards as a win. it should be money simple as that so it looks like i'm done doing it now hehe. if I only saved that money I used on the lotto in the last 15 years i'd be rich lol.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

If you have 5 losing cards you can post them off for a refund. I've done it a few times.

The address is kept a bit hidden on their site , will post it up later tho

Clearly you're not buying enough scratchcards. For every time you lose someone out there is cleaning up and laughing at you. I suggest you buy twice as many cards starting tomorrow.

There was a point when I had the spare money I'd try these every now and then. I wouldnt be successful, but I'd break even. Usually when I buy them in a row of 3 or (if its the £2 ones) 5. and I'd win the amount I spent back or similar.

There was once that I ended up in a cycle of winning a tenner, buying 5 more winning another tenner and repeat until I ended up spending £35 worth on scratch cards but only spending ten pounds...

It was after that confusing waste of money that I stopped for a good while. But I did buy 3 recently and have £8 to collect when I get the chance to go to the shop...should the cycle start again?

Ok. Buy three times as many lotto tickets in that case. I've run the numbers and you're bound to win very soon.

Oh, it's not a swindle. What you do is, see, you give them all your credit card numbers, and if one of them is lucky, they send you a prize

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭zenno

well anyone that does do the Irish lotto should bombard the lotto headquarters with letters telling them to pay money for 3 number winners and scrap the scratchcards as giving scratchcards is a farce.

Probability is a wee bollix but on the other hand the same numbers came up on consecutive weeks in the Bulgarian lottery.

    Numbers.....dont add up themselves.

    Its how you add them

A woman in work won 100k on a scratch card last Christmas. Fella on my mams road won 100k in April. The shop up the road has a sign on the window at the moment "5000 scratchcard winner sold here". Not a scam from where I'm sitting! OP, only play the lotto for fun, you may win, you may not but as far as lotto is concerned its the taking part and being able to dream that you main benefit comes.

It doesn't mean if you buy 5 scratchcards, one of them will win though, will it. It's a 1 in 5 chance of winning, every time you buy a card.

Think of a roulette wheel with 36 numbers (I think that's what's on it). The odds of picking a number should be 36 to 1 each time you spin. It doesn't mean that if you spin it 36 times you will get the right number. You could spin 500 times and still not win! Or you could spin once and win.

    Probability's a bitch huh?

I won 600 odd quid on the 54321 game a few years back. Apart from that it's the odd few quid. Charity wins every time...

I don't mind doing the few numbers on the lotto but what annoys me is putting scratchcards in the win, they should be removed thats all i'm saying. money for money is the game.

When I was very little I loved scratch-cards. I never really won anything except
another 'free scratch-card'. They were fun for a 5 year old though.

The only time I won anything was after winning nothing on the card my mom had just bought me, then I left and walked a few yards down the street, saw a used scratch-card on the ground, picked it up (it had already been scratched) to see that whoever had dropped it would have won something like £2 (I think it was more or less the price of another ticket?).

I ran right back to the shop, claimed my cash prize, bought another scratch-card and won nothing.

I have no idea if this really relates to the post but my point is they're a waste of money and I should have kept my £2 instead of gambling it all away :(

There was one 3euro set I won on constantly... Must have won something 80% of the time. Then they disappeared all too quick, lost my luck and never went back.

awaiting a response from lottery headquarters regarding why they will not pay money for a win instead of a bloody scratchcard. the scratchcard should be nullified from the lottery so I will see what their response will be. :D

I wonder if the mods can add a poll here, for who wants the scratchcard removed from the Irish lottery or not ?. would be interesting. I think this is a very valid request...?

well here is the response from lotto headquarters... bull**** I say.

    Dear zenno

Thank you for your email and I appreciate your comments regarding scratch card prizes in the Lotto Plus games.

Surveys conducted on behalf of the National Lottery gave us feedback that increasing the number of winners was something players could get excited about. Therefore, in November 2006 the National Lottery introduced a new Match 3 prize category with a guaranteed prize of €1 scratch card in the Lotto Plus 2 game, €3 scratch card in the Lotto Plus 1 game and €5 in the Lotto game, this greatly increased the number of modest winners in the game. The scratch card prizes in the Lotto Plus games gives players a further opportunity to win an instant cash prize or the possibility of being drawn to be a participant on our weekly television game show.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your comments, which are greatly appreciated, and I hope you will continue to play and enjoy National Lottery games in the future.

    Kind regards
    Sally Nolan
    Customer Services

I'm not excited sally I just think scratchcards should be removed from the lotto period.

1 in 5.1 cards have a win, however, thinking you'll win once every 5.1 times is infact a very human mistake to make, I think it's called the gambit fallacy but I might be wrong.

These are the sort of people who think if you flip a fair coin and it comes up heads then tails is more likely to appear on the second flip.

    Gawd bless em.

They say "1 in 5 wins", what that really mean is "4 out of 5 loses". It's all in the emphasis.
